Did you know about Tekana?
Tekana is the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS), subsidized up to 40% by the Government of Rwanda. Its mission is simple but powerful: de-risk agriculture and help farmers access financial services with confidence.
Here’s what it covers:
1. Crop Insurance
Protect your investment from planting to harvest.
- Crops covered: maize, rice, Irish potatoes, beans, soybeans, cassava, chili, French beans
- Risks covered: drought, floods, pests and diseases, landslides, hailstorms, and other climate shocks
2. Livestock Insurance
Secure your animals against unexpected loss.
- Animals covered: dairy cattle, pigs, poultry (layers and broilers), fish farming
- Risks covered: death caused by accidents, diseases, outbreaks, and epidemics
By de-risking your farm investment with Tekana, banks and financial institutions become more confident to support you with agricultural loans.
Protect your investment. Farm with confidence.

Rwanda has unlocked a bold new chapter for its young agripreneurs with the launch of the National Strategy for Youth Employment in Agri-Food Systems (NSYEAS) - a national roadmap developed with AGRA to open up real opportunities across the agrifood value chain.
Launched at #YouthFAST2025, the strategy puts youth at the centre of Rwanda’s food systems transformation.

All corners of Africa are capable of growing food under rainfall or irrigation. Where rainfall is low, there is often a river, a lake, or an underground aquifer close by.
You need to channel money, time and equipment into one enterprise until it becomes profitable before spreading resources. Diversifying is good, but not at the expense of focus, consistency, and mastery. Without a strong foundation in one crop, spreading yourself too thin can lead to poor results across the board.
