We bought a brand new Ford Ranger in 2023 to act as a Lister pool car. It’s only done 20k miles but it broke down in catastrophic fashion 3 weeks ago. ☹️ We had to wait till now to get it into Ford only to be told we needed to take it to Ford’s commercial centre. Waiting time - 6 weeks 🤯 and our courtesy car is a Focus 1.0! I’m not sure how good it’ll be at towing our trailer, we shall see. 😳 So that’s 9 weeks waiting time in total. This sort of failure is all too common with the Ranger it seems. Cmon @forduk get your act together 🙏🏼
Great example of why it is so important to shut doors, and in areas where they apply how important it is to have correctly rated and fitted fire doors!
That said… I can’t help but think some sort of filter mask should have been worn by those transiting through the area, knowing what we do now it’s important we protect ourselves post fire just as we do during a fire.

We believe batteries are exploding because they’ve been poorly built, counterfeit or have become damaged. Which is why we’ve been calling for much-needed legislation for online marketplaces to ensure products like batteries, chargers & conversion kits are strictly regulated. 4/5
E-bikes & E-scooters poses a massive health & safety issue! Check out this scary video below of a e-bike combusting!

E-bikes and e-scooters have become London’s fastest-growing fire risk. Lithium battery fires are ferocious & can be devastating. In 2023, there were 155 e-bike fires in London, with three people sadly dying & more than 60 hurt. 3/5
Watch footage from another e-bike fire 👇
One of the men was dangling from a window and being held up by a neighbour below. Crews were quickly on scene and used a ladder to bring him to safety. A second man was also rescued as other firefighters tackled the fire inside the flat.

🚨This is why you must keep your escape routes clear
Last week, firefighters rescued two men from windows of a third-floor flat in #Whitechapel after a charging converted e-bike burst into flames in the hallway, blocking their exit. 🧵1/5

@lithiumbatterybox BANNING wont work in my opinion so tenants should be provided with a safe charging box - safe battery storage box - the increase in fires 2023 almost 80 % higher than in 2022 - Mighty work by @LondonFire to rescue these guys WELL DONE @FISACON
Video showing firefighters from @LondonFire rescuing people from flats in Whitechapel using ladders, the incident took place on the 7th of February 2024 and was caused by an e-bike which was in active thermal runaway with highly toxic, flammable and explosive vapours blocking escape routes.
The incident comes just days just after LFB announced they’d seen a 78% increase in fires caused by e-bikes and e-scooters in 2023 compared to 2022.
Incidents involving e-bikes and e-scooters are currently the fastest growing fire risk in London.

No time for smoke detection to be of any use here - battery fires knock out the conventional detection layer. Make sure the other fire protection layers are strong to compensate, specially compartmentation and evacuation. @BatteryFires
