Today,the ruling on the interim injunction application filed by the Kapaapi community against the Government of Uganda, TotalEnergies, and the Hoima RDC has once again been adjourned by the Hoima High Court, reportedly due to illness at the Registry. The matter has now been pushed to 13 May 2026.
It should be remembered that the ruling was initially expected on 4 May 2026, but was adjourned to today. Even today, the ruling was not delivered, causing continued uncertainty and distress for the affected communities.
The interim injunction seeks to stop unlawful evictions and protect the Kapaapi community until the main case is heard and determined. Meanwhile, the affected communities continue to face threats of re-eviction and a repetition of the gross human rights violations witnessed in February 2023, particularly against women and vulnerable community members.
The repeated postponements continue to place a heavy burden on community members who invest time and scarce resources to attend court while living under fear and insecurity.
The Kapaapi community continues to call for:
Urgent delivery of the interim injunction ruling;
Protection against forced evictions;
Respect for community land rights; and
Accountability for ongoing human rights violations.
Justice delayed continues to put vulnerable families at greater risk.
