Supreme Brands in Massive Import Substitution Drive
Those who follows my cry over unnecessary imports which can be produced domestically can confirm that I consistently pointed out that Zimbabwe spends at least US$200 million on tissue and paper annually.
In my capacity as a Professor of Economics & Executive Director of @AEDS_ZW together with @AEDS_ZW Director of Economics & Strategy @pretty_nyathi I had the honour and privilege to visit Supreme Brands which produces a range of tissue products under the name of Coral Soft.
The company has invested massive state of art technology which has seen it meeting at least 75% of the national demand and its products are highly competitive 👏👏👏
This is a real milestone @Min_of_IC@Jamwanda2
Zimbabwe foreign currency receipts soared to US$8.3 billion as at 31 May 2026
Latest reports from the @ReserveBankZIM shows that in the first 5 months of 2026 total foreign exchange receipts hit US$8.3 billion up from US$6 billion (39% increase) in the same period in 2025.
In the same vein, foreign currency reserves backing the ZIG hit US$1.5 billion up from US$285 million in April 2024.
This is massive & unprecedented!
Surge in foreign currency receipts & reserves is good news - it lays the foundation for sustainable economic stability.
Well done Zimbabwe 👏👏👏👏

CZI: Food Processing Leads Manufacturing Job Creation in 2025.
The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) says the food production sector was Zimbabwe’s strongest manufacturing employer in 2025, recording 16% net employment growth, the highest among all manufacturing subsectors surveyed.
According to the CZI Manufacturing Sector Survey 2025, the sector’s hiring surge was supported by strong business performance, with output increasing by 18% and revenue rising by 19% during the year. The results underscore the growing importance of food processing as a driver of industrial expansion, value addition, and employment creation within Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector.
The African continent doesn’t need more entrepreneurs. It’s full of them.
What it needs is a specific class of entrepreneurs called industrialists: business people who build value-adding firms in export-oriented job creating sectors, not rent capture.

NDS2: Semwa Dam: A Game Changer
The Semwa Dam project is an absolute game-changer for Mashonaland Central, especially for districts like Mt Darwin and Rushinga that have historically battled severe water scarcity.
Infrastructure developments like this are about far more than just storing water; they completely restructure local economies. Here is why the community’s push for Treasury priority is so vital:
### The Ripple Effect of Semwa Dam
✍🏽Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Mt Darwin and Rushinga sit in relatively dry regions prone to recurring droughts. Semwa's massive water storage capacity will unlock thousands of hectares for perennial irrigation. Moving from rain-fed subsistence farming to reliable, year-round commercial agriculture shifts communities from receiving food aid to securing food self-sufficiency.
✍🏽Clean Water & Sanity: Beyond the fields, a high-impact dam secures reliable, treated portable water for surrounding growth points, schools, and clinics, dramatically improving public health.
✍🏽Hydro-Power Potential: Many of these major modern dam designs in Zimbabwe incorporate small-scale hydroelectric plants. Even a few megawatts of localized power can run irrigation pumps and light up nearby rural centers independently of the main grid.
✍🏽Livestock Support: Mashonaland Central relies heavily on cattle. During dry seasons, finding water sources forces herds to walk miles, degrading land and ruining body conditions. Localized reservoirs keep livestock water accessible.
Because mega-dam construction requires massive, consistent capital injections for concrete, engineering, and relocation logistics, the call for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (@ZimTreasury) to maintain a steady flow of funds is critical. When projects of this scale stall, the cost of reviving them down the line inflation-wise spikes dramatically.
Getting Semwa over the finish line is exactly the kind of targeted infrastructure spending that actually yields a return on investment for the national economy. @Min_of_IC@MoLAFWRD_Zim@MOTHI_ZIMBABWE@official_MOEPD@myedvt@SkillsAuditDvt@MOECW_ZIMBABWE

How Zimbabwe🇿🇼 got China🇨🇳 to pour in a billion dollars into value-added lithium investments
Zimbabwe🇿🇼 banned the export of raw lithium and unbeneficiated minerals, resulting in nearly $1 billion in investments for local processing plants.
Chinese🇨🇳 companies, particularly Huayou and Sinomine, have led investments and construction of several lithium sulfate processing facilities.
The first lithium sulfate shipment from Zimbabwe🇿🇼 was exported in April, marking a milestone as the first such product from both the country and the African continent.
Lithium sales surged in 2026, with volumes rising 2% and value increasing 106% year-over-year, highlighting strong global demand and government policy impact.
