Are you a prospective graduate student interested in educational research that makes a difference for policy & practice? Consider doctoral work at UW-Madison! Applicants in some departments can apply for an ITP fellowship to support their graduate work. See the attached flyer!
Check out our new paper on death in animated films! Check out @enrica_b_ thread below. It amazing it was the get to work with her! She combined her interest in media with our work on children's understanding of death, and designed some cool studies. All as an undergrad!
When children learn with math manipulatives, does it matter if they think of them as toys or as tools? @amdonovan2 and I carried out a study to find out! 🧵 1/10

We are thrilled to announce that the NIH has issued their first-ever call for proposals for #POTS research! https://t.co/q3COcHDxcm This is a direct result of five years of strategic advocacy by Dysautonomia International's staff & volunteers. Thank you to everyone involved! 1/3
We're recruiting our final participants for the BioViz study and are hoping to finish this semester. We are specifically looking for children in grades 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7! Evening and weekend appointments are available. If eligible, please email us at [email protected]!
Tons of names in my phones are "Kenny Landlord" and "Mike Electric" or "Pete Do Not Answer" and just realized this is how anglo surnames have always worked
Submitted my first solo-author manuscript today! 🥳🎉😱
Interested in the connections between fractions and algebra? Check out the preprint! https://t.co/4bmOV41YI0
This work came out of my prelim exam, and I'm excited to hear what you all think!
If you are interested in mathematical thinking, gesture, or strategy choice, please check out our (gif) poster -- right here! We looked at how people gesture when explaining fraction magnitude comparisons. With @AlexViegut@amdonovan2 @SarahABrown5 and Percival Matthews.
@AcademicChatter@HLockeSTEM "Working independently" does NOT mean "work by yourself with no guidance."
Science is a collaborative field, and you are in grad school to receive training and learn from others.
Myself and several other awesome researchers have designed this study in an effort to better understand how kids learn algebra! If you know any 6th-8th graders in the US who are interested in participating (virtual study!) feel free to send this gorgeous infographic their way ☺️
UW-Madison Psychology: NSF-funded 10 week summer undergrad PAID mentored research experience, w/weekly data science boot camp, for BIPOC/1st gen/low-income students. Run virtually in 2020; we shall see for summer 2021. Encourage your students to apply! https://t.co/OCxvejDARS
I have a new pre-print with Karl Rosengren and his awesome lab at @UofR Back in April we asked parents to tell us about the conversations they have with their children about the COVID-19 pandemic. We were interested in their child's questions and how parents responded 1/x
Check out the special issue of @CBELifescied for lots of interesting research on science education! (shameless self-promotion: I have a paper from one of our @WCER_UW with @mwalibali and @UWCogDevLab) #LSEchat
@xiaofei_lin But putting off work due to depression or anxiety IS procrastination. Procrastination can be (and maybe usually is) a symptom of other problems, not a sign of laziness or a moral failure.
@mwalibali We've been using Instacart...still puts someone at risk, but if there are only professionals going, there are fewer people to spread germs around in stores.
Some good news to end the first week of the semester! Our paper on @CBELifescied special issue is now available. In this paper, we examine the visualizations in biology books. Best part: It is open access! Here is the link: https://t.co/6AiEKwnLQe
