So...my mom kind of made a total 180? I haven't talked to her for years, and next thing I know, my sister is telling me about the community-oriented LGBTQ+ safe space plant store she opened that also sells crystals and stuff?! 🤯😵💫
I've been struggling to find the words about Manhunt, but I think I found the core of my feelings about it: it's honest. That book tells the fucking truth. It's dressed in a post-apocalyptic setting, but you can see our reality so very clearly.
This is one of the reasons I loved the book. Any of those tidier endings would have felt...wrong. I know it's fiction, and you can make whatever reality you want, but the rest of it is such a raw (and beautiful) wound, you can't just slap a bandaid on it, you know?
A lot of readers get upset that the characters in MANHUNT don't cure the virus or beat the bad guys for good or come up with a way for the human race to keep procreating safely. I get a lot of "why do these people want to keep living?"
What do you think it's like to be queer?
Sometimes I wonder if the shadowy government groups like the CIA/NSA ever play "Writer or murderer" when they find a questionable search history.
"Hey George, I think we got another one. 'Ways to dispose of a body', followed by 'how to make acid'."
That fucking gut-punch moment I forgot my exes made a "household" Insta (🤮), but there it fucking is, displaying pics of my old room being redone and absolutely no one giving a crap about how the vacancy just "magically" opened up. 🙄😒
Fuck. Them.
@JanetteKirchner I actually taught myself to write backwards when I was in high school! My penmanship isn't particularly neat, but it's actually better backwards once you flip the page over and read it as normal. 🤣
Okay, one of my absolute favourite storytelling tropes in TTRPGs is the self-generated rumor mill, where you pick some detail about your character's life/backstory and change it whenever someone asks. I fucking love doing that.
@HillaryMonahan So. Much. Worse. 😭
I get paranoid, unreasonably irritable, and my RSD has a freaking hair trigger.
My current gyno put me on an antidepressant (something no other doctor has ever offered me before), and it's helping SO MUCH. 🥹
@SpychalaM @KameronHurley That is the book I fantasize about hurling at misogynists. Best case, they open it up and are wowed/horrified; worst case, they get a concussion (Oh noooo).
I am currently working through The Burning God by @kuangrf. Pacing myself because I'm not ready for the end. 😭
@anlachabhacach @lindsayfickas My Christian school threw a harvest fest as a Halloween alternative, and they allowed Bible-related costumes.
I dressed as Lazarus. That was 20 years ago, and I STILL can't believe my mom let me do that. 🤣
@zencoffeebreak @lindsayfickas Possible theories: diversity on screen, Spanish vocab, some Christians get weird about puppets?, controversial guests, general paranoia about secular children's programs...
@Camivette@lindsayfickas I babysat for a family with kids that went to the same Christian school I did, and I had to assure them that the bowing in my tkd class wasn't an act of idolatry and promise that I used the meditation time for prayer.
Me on dating app: I'm a cute little eclectic Pagan observing the Winter Solstice!
Chatting Partner: Cool. Tell me more!
Me: Well, I like to think about the Why of practices because of Exvangelical trauma. Isn't Christian supremacy insidious and scary?
Me:...🤦🏽♀️ Crap.
