Sergej Zilitinkevich was a brilliant scientist and recipient of numerous awards for his creation of modern theory on turbulent boundary layers in the atmosphere and ocean. It is a great loss for the community.
Our condolences to the Zilitinkevich Family.
Prof. Zilitinkevich is an irreplaceable member of our research community. He was fundamental in the establishment of the PEEX Program. The legacy of his work will continue.
A prominent scientist, supervisor and just a friend for many of us, Professor Sergej Zilitinkevich passed away this Monday. He has been fighting till the end. I didn't know anyone else with so much energy and so many ideas.
The fact that simple energy balance considerations work so well for climate change prediction is of the fundamental philosophical significance for climate understanding. M. Budyko (1972): 1°C warming and 50% ice disappearance by 2019. https://t.co/LvFJlYIFWx
