Media organisations need to consider limiting the comments on their articles as it brings nothing to it other negativity, vitriol and increased engagement rates. This is not a debate. Not everything needs a comment. They must consider their social responsibly.
Cyclists belong on the road as much as anyone else. They have a right to be there and they have right to be safe.
Irresponsible and impatient, consider how a close pass could kill someone and living with that for the rest of your life.
Just take your time and respect others.
Very disturbing reports today that a nationally significant ancient oak (over 6 metres in circumference) was felled in Whitewebbs Park in Tottenham. The facts are still not clear about who did it & why, but it appears to be on land owned by LB Enfield who did not give permission, so has been reported to the police as criminal damage.
Despite its age & size the tree did not have a Tree Protection Order (TPO) on it because the Council does not consider that trees on land it owns do not need TPO protection too. They have now put a TPO on the remains of the tree, but it’s too soon to say whether the tree might produce fresh pollard growth or be killed by the shock.
This shows the desperate need for better protections for our veteran and ancient trees. A building the same age as this tree would almost certainly be listed (council owned or not), & we should have an equivalent system for trees, with equivalent enforcement & punishment.
In the meantime, @EnfieldCouncil need to:
- Properly investigate who felled this tree & demand prosecution.
- Practically & legally protect the remains of this ancient tree.
-Put TPO’s on all remaining trees at Whitewebbs Park to stop anything like this happening again.
Also given the price of these bikes, it’s highly likely these people also drive, and probably pay WAY more tax over their lifetime than others complaining about them. So this idea that cyclists don’t pay tax is obscene and stupid.
This isn’t a commuting or casual cyclist (cycle lanes are largely for this). They’re a road cyclist, doing 24-30mph. If you’re impatient or going faster, highly likely you as the driver are breaking a speed limit and are the dangerous road user.
Roads aren’t just for cars FYI.
🔍 A view of our patch on a sunnier day earlier this week!
We call the area outside the station 'The Jungle' due to the maze of tracks that bring you to and from Glasgow Central. 😍
My daughter's training to be a teacher. Pretty much no chance of a job after her probation. And yet the unis are still taking on new students every year.

This ‘story’ started out with one woman, and two dozen people on a live stream.
In three weeks it has led to a blossoming of public and media understanding of the law, to Scottish Labour’s rejection of self-ID, and to the FM’s humiliation.
@joe_yer99 Pretty sure this was locked by the residents/businesses after there was a tent fire from Occupy protesters camping there (in 2011) causing damage and safety issues. Public had full access to the privately managed park until this happened.
Centring an entire industry around alcohol consumption, when young people do not have the same drinking culture as previous generations, will ultimately end in, well, the end.

Interesting data from the Night Time Industries Association.
While London saw a devastating 19.7% decline in nightclubs from March 2020 to Nov 2024, this was the smallest of any region.
UK average decline has been 32.7%.
Wales and Yorkshire suffered declines of over 40%.
Anyone: Oh look, a puppy! Look at this cute sweet puppy 😍
The internet: Your puppy is a government spy that controls us all with 5g and personally triggers me because I once had a fish that looked like a puppy and because of that you should remove this image and apologise
I still can’t fathom why grown adults close pass cyclists, shout at them out of their windows, and generally act aggressively towards them. For what? It’s really quite sad. Just give them space and get on with your day, and everyone makes it home alive. It’s really not difficult.
Hot take: this isn’t enough space and overtaking clearance should be much wider. It should be wide as you’d give another vehicle. Bicycles deserve as much respect on the road as any other mode of transport, if not more, given their vulnerability.
Who do you think brings the food? A magical bread fairy? Deliveries were also advised not to travel, therefore it’s not a surprise there is no food on the shelves.
