Today, @UNESCO opened a new chapter in the way we mobilize our global Networks — an ecosystem of more than 20,000 institutions and members worldwide, including UNESCO Chairs and the Associated Schools Network, Category 2 Centres, accredited non-governmental organizations, UNESCO-designated sites and cities, expert groups and Goodwill Ambassadors.

I opened the inaugural UNESCO Networks Cluster Meeting on AI alongside UNESCO’s Senior Management Team, bringing together participants from around the world to explore how the Organization’s extensive global ecosystem can mobilize its collective expertise and intelligence to address the ethical, social, educational, scientific and cultural implications of artificial intelligence.

Together, these Networks form an extraordinary global ecosystem capable of translating UNESCO’s principles into action — from equipping teachers and learners with AI competencies to strengthening media and information literacy, young people’s cognitive autonomy, locally rooted innovation, linguistic diversity and inclusive governance.

This new series of Cluster Meetings will connect UNESCO’s Networks around the Organization’s priority themes and create new opportunities for cooperation across education, science, culture, communication and information. #ForThePeople

These exchanges reaffirmed the importance of broad partnerships to advance education, sciences, culture and information #ForThePeople.

UNESCO will continue connecting research, policy and action to deliver solutions that benefit people everywhere.

At today’s inaugural International Day of Small Island Developing States, I underscored a simple truth: SIDS must be central to our shared priorities.

Contributing less than 1% of global emissions, they face some of the most severe climate impacts.

@UNESCO is committed to working hand in hand with SIDS to strengthen knowledge, build capacities, and foster resilience across societies and ecosystems. #ForThePeople
