I’m someone who has struggled with my faith (or lack thereof) my whole life and I’ve gotten more spiritually out of The Smashing Pumpkins than I ever could from most Christian bands.

Lines like “Emptiness is loneliness, and loneliness is cleanliness, and cleanliness is godliness, and God is empty just like me” and “Tell me I'm the only one, tell me there's no other one. Jesus was an only son for you, and I still believe that I cannot be saved” are far more relatable to someone like me than the saccharine lyrics found in most Christian music.

It didn’t drive me away from God, it ultimately brought me out of nihilistic atheism and to my current agnosticism.
