This H-1B worker has lived in the US for nearly 20 years and built a family here. His mom was dying in India. To visit her, he would need to wait months to book a consular appointment--with the soonest one available likely being scheduled one year out.
He made the difficult choice of not visiting his dying mom because leaving without an appointment would mean separation from his children, job, and his other obligations.
Much of the commentary around immigration focuses on how such bureaucratic burdens undermine immigrants’ ability to contribute and innovate. But we must remember that this red tape also prevents these people from being fully engaged with their own lives and meaningfully present in the lives of others. This matters too, and these seemingly non-economic problems will eventually translate into economic costs.
If America is no longer a place where people feel empowered to be the best versions of themselves as they celebrate, struggle, and grieve, it ceases not just being the land of opportunity, but also the land of dignity and purpose.

Being part of a toxic, neurotic circle of people where disrespect, mockery is par for the course should be a part of everyone's journey.
Leaving that same circle, crafting your own journey and personal growth years down the road will show to yourself what you're capable of!
In your mid-30s, you talk to two kinds of people: One type is who is looking at others doing well, and losing their minds over it, and the other one is who has made peace with the truth that 99% of things are outside of their control and is genuinely happy for others.
NRIs can live with $3,000 rent, $10 coffee and $200 dinners abroad.
But the moment a dentist says “$1,200 for a root canal”,

Dubai has spent multiple 100s of billions of $ to create an unbelievable ecosystem and infrastructure. 1 missile attack is enough to destroy decades worth of investment and effort, now its perception as a global hub is damaged.
Many people thought Dubai is a safe heaven.
Including me.
Today, few hours ago USA attacked Iran.
Iran had promised to give back by attacking the US bases in Saudi, UAE and other gulf regions.
And it happened.
10kms away from my home in Dubai there were explosions heard.
No cabs.
Airspace closed.
Let’s wait and watch what happens next.
Stay safe comrades!
Just a thought from me:
Generally, people seem to be moving towards much more polarized positions on every single issue. The older I get the more I realize there are infinite shades of gray and most of the time the optimal path and the truth is in neither of the extremes, but in a path or insight that at first is neither obvious nor convenient.
The Indian and Eastern European offshore software development industries are no longer relevant.
Western developers should prepare for a wave of layoffs, followed by subsequent offers to be rehired with a 30-50% reduction in salary.
California will become too expensive for developers. Many will leave to work remotely from cheaper locations, and Silicon Valley will shrink.
A flight from US to India. People boarded the flight. Found out about the H1B news. Immediately disembarked fearing they won’t be allowed re-entry. Crazy
@AnandaniNisha This is very debatable. Where are the censorship guidelines? Who decides what is good and what isn't? India needs to move more towards free speech, that's what fuels creativity, not cancel culture and censorship. There are 2 sides of the aisle on this argument.
Ranveer Allahbadia's podcasts may/may not teach you anything, but his act of saying rubbish definitely gave a learning.
