A FOND FAREWELL TO TAYLOR HARWOOD-BELLIS

And so it finally appears Taylor Harwood-Bellis is off to Aston Villa for a reported £25m rising to £30m. #SaintsFC are losing an excellent centre-back, occasional captain and England international — but also, critically, one of the finest shithousers ever to pull on the red and white.

Taylor arrived on loan in 2023/24 and quickly became a key part of the side that went on that remarkable unbeaten run and secured promotion at Wembley. He then made the move permanent and followed it with seven goals last season, including a career-first brace against Leicester. For a centre-back, Taylor clearly regarded defending as merely one of several hobbies.

But it was the shithousing that truly endeared him to the faithful. The finest example came against Middlesbrough, when Taylor celebrated by producing imaginary binoculars in reference to the spying saga. Childish? Yes. Petty? Absolutely. Magnificent? Without question.

There were yellow cards, confrontations, winding up opponents and the general air of a man who had decided that centre-back was partly a defensive position and partly community theatre.

Villa are getting a seriously good footballer. Saints are losing a player who gave us leadership, goals, commitment and an outstanding understanding of the ancient art of annoying the opposition.

Thanks for everything, Taylor. Once a Saint, always a Saint. And Villa fans: cherish the shithousery.
