The Mission held a reception for @NjovanaEunice who is Zimbabwe's candidate for the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) for the term 2025-2028. Eleven new #CEDAW Committee members will be elected on 7 June 2024 at the 23rd Meeting of States parties in New York. Newly elected Committee members will replace outgoing members whose terms of office will expire on 31 December 2024. Njovana said that her priorities were a desire for more synergy among the human rights treaty bodies. She said the mandate of each treaty body was not sufficient to advance comprehensive human rights if they continued to work in silos. They all need to work together in a very intentional, deliberate, measured, and calculated way to deliver the results of gender equality and women's empowerment. Njovana was endorsed by the African Union. More can be found here👉https://t.co/7lG6I70doc
Honored to meet with Africa Election Officers in New York today as the African Union's endorsed candidate for #CEDAW2025-2028! I briefed them on Human Rights Treaty Bodies and my vision for the CEDAW Committee. I emphasized the importance of representation and voice for the Global South in these crucial fora. Together, we can champion the global realization of women's rights and ensure inclusive progress. #ZIM4CEDAW2025-2028.
Hard work at the office. Campaigning in the delegates' lounge for a highly contested seat on the CEDAW Committee. I've had the opportunity to speak to over 30 voting officers of State parties to CEDAW so far and still counting. 🇿🇼
