@chjournalist@brandonousley It’s a testament to his talent that those duets with Roberta are his least essential work for me. His own work is far more affecting and lasting IMHO.
@brandonousley The meaning imposed on it prior to this knowledge never made sense to me. Knowing what it’s really about really makes it resonate in a far more powerful way. It’s my absolute favorite song by anyone.
@RetroNewsNow The beginning of the sell-out. They had R&B cred with the "So Much in Love" cover they debuted with and threw it ALL away with the country/pop nonsense. It made them a lot of money but it killed their credibility and limited their shelf life tremendously.
For our 51st episode, we now focus on the very talented @mcbrainz216. He just had his first big hit. Somehow, this song featuring the incredibly hot @BoyzIIMen, didn't become huge too. Let's take a listen and talk about why it didn't quite land. https://t.co/5DCDzWIeKW
This one features @DeonEstus - the ostensible third member of Wham! Let's dig into his career and the odd history of this single. Hint: this is the SECOND iteration of this single. #randb#soul#soulmusic#georgemichael@GeorgeMOfficial https://t.co/e4zCpacvWx
NEW VIDEO! This time, we talk about one of the greatest songwriters in history! This was intended as his mainstream comeback. It didn't quite work...but this song is a BANGER! Let's listen and talk about why it got missed: @babyface#randb#neptunes https://t.co/iGaYs4qEDw
@garcoxgang We Can’t Be Friends by miles. The song is SOOOOO much better than the others. It’s a whole story and Deborah and RL tell it beautifully. @ShepCrawford wrote a MASTERPIECE!
@brandonousley CDs are going away. There really is no need for them anymore. They aren’t sexy like vinyl and it’s just a physical medium with digital 0s and 1s. We can get that in files. The expense isn’t worth it for acts to have them manufactured. I do get you on the “impersonal” thing tho.
@brandonousley Both of those Luther albums are so cool. Props to Paul Riser for his arrangement chops on both of those records. Luther would improve but he was never bad…and both of these albums prove how good he already was.
@TheMekon_Venus Honestly, not a thing. Few seem to remember but Blockbuster was the "big bad wolf" - making Erols & independent movie rental spots close left and right. They were merciless. It was the Walmart of movie rental. They got what was coming to them. They shouldn't be romanticized.
One of the best female singers we’ve ever known, Karen recorded a solo album that was initially shelved but finally surfaced 16 years later. Let’s talk about what happened, why it was shelved, and about this amazing song that got missed as a result:
