Phil Collins' "No Jacket Required" album features a surprising guest vocal by Sting on the track "Long Long Way to Go." The unexpected collaboration arose because Collins and Sting were working nearby in the same studio complex during their solo projects. It was an impromptu decision to have Sting contribute, but his unique voice complemented the song perfectly, adding a layer of emotional depth. Additionally, rather amusingly, the album title came from an incident where Collins was denied entry to a restaurant for not adhering to the dress code — hence, 'No Jacket Required.'
They are now 4 songs in and we have our first new song - "The Pass"! Expecting the "Bravado" Neil Peart tribute next. Follow along with the setlist https://t.co/KN9gkpS7FW
“Sledgehammer” is the biggest hit of Peter Gabriel’s solo career and his only #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 (1986). Its revolutionary music video, directed by Stephen R. Johnson, featured groundbreaking stop-motion, claymation, and pixilation work by Aardman Animations (the Wallace & Gromit studio) and the Brothers Quay.
Gabriel spent a grueling 16 hours lying motionless under a glass plate while animators worked frame-by-frame around him. The entire shoot was an exhausting, week-long production. The result? It won a record 9 awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards (including Video of the Year) and remains the most played music video in MTV history.
A surprising twist behind Out of the Blue: Jeff Lynne wrote much of it during a Swiss alpine retreat after a burst of creativity that famously produced nearly the entire double album in just a few weeks. Its iconic spaceship design also helped make the album a visual event, with the cover gatefold unfolding into a sci-fi spectacle that matched the music’s grand, futuristic ambition.

Foreigner, 4
A little’80’s rock for the evening, with this banger from Foreigner originally released in 1981.
Juke Box Hero, Waiting for A Girl Like You, & Urgent were all massive hits.
This is a 2013 Dutch reissue on 180g vinyl. I didn’t have a copy in ‘81. At last I do.
