We've not had much to say on here for a while - the atmosphere isn't so conducive to safe discussion...
But we do want to promote our new film:

Let CSA survivors speak for themselves....'Imagine If Bones Could Talk...'
The Visible Director is proud to be a Trustee of this new charity, which is led by people with lived experience. Important to note than many people with complex dissociation issues are survivors of #CSA.
On Dissociative Identity Disorder Day, fantastic news that the Dissociative Disorders Alliance has been formally registered as a charity; and can now commence working towards improving outcomes for people living with complex dissociative disorders.
Poor understanding for the mental health condition Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) means we have this day to represent the passion many survivors & allies have to raise as much awareness as possible. DID is real, validated by clinical research all over the world #DID
Fully agree with this - lots of non trauma-informed responses to #CSA survivors, at times when they need acceptance, compassion, belief, validation - a simple, human response.
On day 6 of #ItsNotOk - be mindful of using the term ‘trauma p**n’ or ‘trauma dumping’ to describe the stories survivors of child sexual abuse are disclosing - some after decades of silence. It’s shaming, and demoralising. How we speak out about our child sexual abuse is a deeply personal choice - and every word spoken should be valued, never scorned as trauma p**n. Let’s be kind and support all survivors. There is no ‘rule book’ to speaking out. #CSA
...The message to the workforce is, 'trauma-informed care is now everyone's business'.
Also, 'nurturing psychological safety for abuse and trauma survivors is now your primary concern'
Positive change is coming!
Yesterday, the Visible Director and two trauma survivors (one a survivor of #CSA) led on embedding trauma-informed approaches at the first worker Introduction Days (for the Leeds Community Mental Health Transformation)....
“...By changing the law, it will now be possible for victims to come forward and seek justice when they feel ready to do so.”
Hasn't exactly fixed the criminal justice system, but a big step in the right direction.
Re. previous tweet - politician talks sense shock:
Justice minister Sarah Sackman said: “The courts must work for the public they serve, and we recognise that victims and survivors need time to process their trauma...
During Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, I want to address an uncomfortable but crucial truth because it makes me want to bang my head against the wall most days…
While shocking headlines about abuse cases may capture our attention, the most important lesson often gets overlooked: perpetrators of child sexual abuse are rarely strangers. They are typically people known to the child.
Take the recent case in France - before the extent of his crimes were discovered, the first report came from a 6-year-old neighbour. https://t.co/WFiwWVj3SW
As uncomfortable as this reality makes us feel, acknowledging that perpetrators are not ‘over there’ but here - hiding in plain sight, is essential for prevention. We must:
- Learn to recognise warning signs
- Create environments where children feel safe to speak up
- Listen and believe children when they do
- Have age-appropriate conversations about body safety
- Question situations that don't ‘feel’ right
- Speak openly about this issue to help break the societal stigma and encourage more people to speak out about their abuse
Most perpetrators of child sexual abuse will likely someone’s family member. If they are sexually abusing outside of their family networks, it stands to reason they will be drawn to children within them.
According to another article, “members of his own family also knew of Le Scouarnec’s pa*do*hili* but failed to stop him” (BBC News)

In 2024, we acted to remove images or videos of children suffering sexual abuse, or links to that content, on 291,270 webpages. Each page can contain at least one, if not hundreds or thousands, of images and videos.
This is the most child sexual abuse webpages we've ever discovered in our 29-year history and is a 5% increase on the 275,650 webpages identified in 2023.

Today marks the start of Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week.
The @MayorofWY and I support victims/ survivors, working with @WestYorksPolice to bring perpetrators to justice.
We’re also challenging harmful attitudes & behaviours to reduce offending #ItsNotOK#SASVAW
Feels exceptionally important to say, that Visible stands in solidarity with all trans and non-binary people - especially those who've experienced #CSA, of course - but with all generally - given the current climate - and especially on this damn site!
