North Pacific's Gift Shop is full of unique items, like Margaret McDonald's pottery and wooden bowls. She recently visited NPC to restock her collection of decorative fish and humming birds! #consignment#princerupert
In front of the net loft—where women and children spent hours cleaning and repairing nets for gillnetting fishermen to use—a spider's silky web glistens. Like a gillnetter, a spider must consider a number of factors when determining the location of its web to catch prey.
This year marks 130 years since @NPCannery's founder John Carthew began construction on the land he bought for $183. He gathered twelve men to drive in pilings and erect the wharf and main canning building for use that summer, then sold the business for $40,000. #bchistory
North Pacific Cannery is home to the Grand Trunk Pacific Model Railroad Club. Housed in our 76-year-old salt shed, the model trains jump into action several times per day as tourists pass by and insert a loonie into a box. #princerupert#hiddentreasures
From her vibrant painted glassworks to coastal natural photography, Moyna MacIlroy is the creative force behind many of the captivating items on sale in the North Pacific Gift Shop. She is among several artists and artisans whose work we feature—take a look on your next visit!
A recent visitor from AZ:
"Intelligent and informative tour guide made the visit extraordinary! The cannery is a veritable museum of a bygone era, complete with machinery, materials, photographs and even an actual rowboat."

Happy "Canniversary" to @gogcannery in #Steveston! Younger than North Pacific by just 5 years, this so-called "Monster Cannery" was the largest in BC at its time until 1902. Explore https://t.co/iCFqabFdgn to learn more about the summer of celebrations.
Happy 2019 #HistoricPlacesDay! After 130 years, North Pacific Cannery continues to share the stories of those who experienced the salmon canning industry to their children, grandchildren, and the many visitors eager to explore Canadian history first-hand. 🇨🇦
For tour guides at @NPCannery, this view makes enduring the occasional downpour worth the wait: the mouth of the #skeenariver and densely-forested Smith Island. The beacon? Not operating today, but a reminder of how communication with the fishing fleet used to work. #exploreanada
