@SteveWAFB No real reason not to be content with your choice of pine straw. Freshening it up every spring is a little more costly than every 2 years(sometimes we’d go 3) with bark, curb appeal is worth it though

@SteveWAFB No more floating away mulch for you and no more moldy mulch for you. The pine straw allows water to seep into the ground easier(more runoff with older compacted bark mulch). Add a freshen up layer each year. Congratulations, Steve!

@SteveWAFB Steve, Tammy and I switched to pine straw(Louisiana nursery Prairieville) 3 years ago and never removed the wood mulch. It decomposes ands adds to the soil We will not be going back to wood mulch again.

Yes, they work. Also, open cabinet doors that contain pipes from an outdoor wall to allow heat to flow in. Attic pipes will freeze if you don't drip faucets; even hot water since only the tank stays hot, not the pipes!

@SteveWAFB @ambientweather I've had two of these and I can totally vouch for Ambient weather! They've survived every storm and hurricane for the past 7 years.

@SteveWAFB plain sand compacts too much and grass won't grow through. plain soil washes away and river silt has too much unwanted debris in it. 70/30 ratio soil to sand; rake to level no more than an inch at a time.
