The reason is literally that it was one of very few avenues out of poverty allowed to them in the past.

@anarchoqueerism @ferolhumphrey @sadarlo1 Maturity as in emotional intelligence, strong communication skills, self-awareness, being able to do self-work on insecurities/jealousy, being able to have lots of open, honest conversations, and being able to act with intention and morality are vital to doing healthy polyamory.

There's a lot of improv/acting involved, politics, economies, emotional drama within a safe space. It lets people explore things they don't do day to day.
