I liked DFWs God debate anecdote. So often is it hard to meet eye to eye on an issue but we have to consider where someone’s beliefs have been shaped from to understand their point of view. Something seemingly simple but rarely is it used #laylit20

@Nanditaa_K I think it has to be a balance. Acting too robotic might work at first, but it would also be ones undoing as no one would want to serve under robotic command as time went on. Acting too emotional clouds ones judgement into making a selfish decision over the right one. #laylit20

I think chess was the perfect allegory for the Cold War. Just like chess, you can’t win a battle without making sacrifices. Even though it was more discreet, there were definetely sacrifices during the Cold War #laylit20

“Every 15 minutes his television would urge him to vote intelligently or consume intelligently...” I think this is a statement on the constant advertising and marketing we see 24/7 but the “intelligently” part is thinking we aren’t affected by it. #laylit20

@litwithlayton I think it really depends on what your view of traditional masculinity is. Personally I think he fit the description of “masculine”. He was in the army, had a reserved personality and when he admitted his love for catharine he still seemed to hold back letting it all out#laylit20

@yashage_lit I think what he says can be trusted but newt was just terrible at explaining himself. He admits how he feels but he really doesn’t go into detail into why so I can see why you distrust him #laylit20

@yashage_lit I think it speaks to the fact that not everything can be truly equal. People are born with things that give them an advantage or disadvantage like the the announcers with the speech impediment. At some point one has to accept their inequalities and work to overcome them #laylit20

With George, he had the sound playing in his ear every 20 seconds preventing him from thinking reasonably. While not to the extreme of the radio, there are definetely similarities #laylit20

I think the radio in George’s ear can be compared to the media today. Especially with social media, we are constantly being fed information and propaganda that prevents the ability for us to come up with our own conclusions, instead we eat up what others believe in #laylit20

@yashage_lit I think change is permanent. Just because Adam doesn’t go back to change doesn’t mean he hasn’t changed. His religious habits? Probably not. But he has definetely learned something from straying away for a bit and had a different mindset because of it #laylit20

@W0lfJack Adam was a distraction but as in most relationships they grow and develop which is what has happened between Fiona and Adam. He has helped her in a lot of ways which is why he’s more than a distraction #laylit20

@colelitclark I think it makes sense given that now Adam feels like he gets to choose what he wants to believe in, so it makes sense how he decides not to follow what he’s been forced to follow his whole life #laylit20

@colelitclark I think part is professional and part is the fact that she doesn’t want to get too close to Adam because of who he is and what he represents. He’s got a cool name but besides that it’s hard to make an argument why it is good for her to do so #laylit20
