Adam's parents may question their own beliefs because of the trial - for them to be joyed at Adam's survival is natural as parents but goes against their theology since God's plan was derailed. Further religious differences at home can be spurred by his parent's doubt #laylit20

@Jeffrey98367332 Instead of a parental figure, Adam's near-obsession with Fiona points to his perception of her as his savior or God. As his faith, his primary passion in life dwindles, he needs to be spiritually fulfilled. Thanks to Fiona he was reborn, finding new enjoyment in life #laylit20

He feels "happy and then sad and then happy again" (mood swings) and I get the feeling Adam is dissociating from religion #laylit20
