🚨Fresh from the press 🚨
My second PhD chapter was published yesterday https://t.co/grN12ltJEx
We investigated the crustal properties and subglacial geology in Wilkes Subglacial Basin and northern Victoria Land, East Antarctica by using joint inversion of gravity and magnetic
Our first deployment coincided with the magnitude 7.1 #earthquake in Japan. Our OBSs detected the signal here in the North Atlantic, 8,500 km from the epicentre
Yesterday, the @unibirmingham led @IMPULSE_cruise expedition set sail from Hafnarfjörður, Iceland.
Find out what the crew will be up to, and how this research will help us to understand global #climatechange

After just over a day of sailing, we made it to our first OBS drop @ midnight! We’re deploying ocean bottom seismometers to record acoustic waves and using the data to interpret the structure and thickness of the oceanic crust south of Iceland 🇮🇸
🚢🌊Welcome aboard! 🌊🚢
Meet the science party of the IMPULSE cruise as we board our new floating home for the next 6 weeks, the Marcus G Langseth!
Mandatary team photos completed, ready to sail 10 am tomorrow morning!

Currently in Iceland enjoying one last night on shore before heading off into the North Atlantic for the next six weeks as part of the @IMPULSE_cruise 🌋 Science party team photo to mark the start of our voyage! #Impulse2024
At #EGU24? Come along to my poster at X5.93 between 10.45-12.30 to here me talk about global vertical profiles of tropospheric NO2 and O3 and how we can use these to improve the paramerisation of lightning in chemical transport models! ☁️⚡️👩🏻💻
Now crossing our fingers that the ferry back to the mainland will actually be running tomorrow, very different to our beautiful sunset crossing on the way here!

Currently sat warming up in a pub after a very windy attempt to summit Goat Fell reflecting on a great week on the @EarthSciCam first year field trip to Arran, exploring the geological history of the island and the influence of the North Atlantic Igneous Province 🛠️🌊🦕
70km/hr winds meant that this is as close we got to a summit photo before we decided the risk of undergrads blowing away was too high and to turn back, but was lovely to lead a hike with such a fab bunch of people all in very high spirits considering the weather
Interested in the dynamic topography of the Australian continent? Come along to my poster at #AGU23 today!
It’s poster DI33B-0028 and I’ll be presenting all afternoon 🌏🇦🇺🦘
@EarthSciCam
A very inspiring spritz-fuelled week at @scar_instant 🥂 So lovely to meet friends old and new, and heading home with some exciting new ideas to see me through the rest of the PhD!
🌊❄️Thank you so much INSTANTers!!!
🌍What an amazing conference! Science is a matter of cooperation, collaboration, and friendship beyond borders...especially for Antarctic science.
👉Stay tuned for outcomes in the next months!
Is this bottle empty or full? According to one speaker at tonight's @scar_instant#conference dinner it could contain the local #Bora wind. I am not sure though. 🤔
Against all odds both my poster and I have survived a very convoluted route to Trieste from Cambridge via Edinburgh and Bologna without getting separated from one another for #SCARINSTANT2023 with enough time for a quick explore before this evenings events @scar_instant
