Simply put, something came out & made her story look bad. She quickly dropped her charges (because legally he could sue).

First of all, think about it; IF THE THINGS HE WAS ACCUSED OF WERE REALLY TRUE & NOT a setup (based on the last evidence brought forward), why would they not release him entirely? They found out something & that's why they have to protect him.
