Young’s Hotel on Worthington Street at Stearns Square was one of many downtown hotels at the start of the 20th century. At the west end of this block was the Hotel Worthy. Visitors to our town repeatedly reported ours to be a beautiful city with much to do.
“I want to make a difference,” Concepcion said in 2005. “I can make a difference. By being thoughtful and trustworthy. My yes is a yes. My no is no. I am my own man. Not a chameleon trying to figure out what you want me to be.” - via @wmasspi
RIP to Clodo, a legend in my neighborhood. One of the first Ward 5 Councilors in 50 years, this Cuban émigré dedicated his life & service to making 16 Acres a better place. He was a firecracker, but sometimes a little fire is needed to get the job done.

“Whether a square or a stick in the mud—among the things this blog deemed him—Concepcion also had a quintessential American story. It was hyperlocal & global, fascinating & frustrating, historic & timeless. Love him or hate him, his was a Springfield story of the highest order.”
The scenes coming out of Georgia are flat out unacceptable. No one, and I mean no one, should be forced to trade hours of their time as a transaction to cast a ballot. Federal legislation is necessary to prevent any state from doing this.
“My frustration with Democrats has been a desire to continually play nice with people who are very determined to not make that an option.”
On “The Run-Up” podcast, hear voters share their biggest concerts before the U.S. midterm elections on Tuesday.

Now: @SecretaryOfMass predicts turnout for state election will be 2.2 million — much lower than the 2.7 million-plus turnout in the 2018 governor’s race. “There’s not an awful lot of enthusiasm,” Galvin says, adding it’s “more like a midterm exam than a midterm choice.” #mapoli
I was very proud to join our new Ward 5 Councilor Lavar W. Click-Bruce, fellow former candidate @ed3paula, and our wonderful Council President @JLLederman this morning for some #GOTV in Springfield! #413votes#mapoli
As an independent voter, it’s important to me to show my support for Gubernatorial candidate @maura_healey, because I like her policies and her common sense approach. Early voting begins today - make sure you cast your vote anytime from now until #ElectionDay on November 8.
This view shows the corner of Maple and Stockbridge Streets. Daniel Wesson’s iron fence shows up in the far left. The buildings on the left are long gone but were still standing in the early 1970s. Many on the right remain today including the Dutch steps of Dr. Harvey Van Allen.
Protests erupted in #Springfield as elsewhere following George Floyd's killing. Darryl Moss, a former aide to #Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, has sued him and the city alleging he was fired for speaking out as events unfolded. #mapoli#spfldpoli https://t.co/L2jYNt7WuL
Daniel Wesson built his dream home on Maple Street in the 1890s. Dubbed “Fort Wesson” by the newspaper, the interior featured gold plumbing fixtures, exotic wood walls and paintings on the ceilings. Two little girls watch in awe as the coach arrives on the left of the picture.
