let me break it down for you

2020 covid resulted in the oil prices increasing in value, this was due to the lockdowns and restrictions which impacted the global trade industry, creating a bit of scarcity, as Canada is one of the crude oil suppliers, means they are set to benefit from the increased prices, meaning the potential of the Canadian dollar strengthening is there , and due to that we saw an increase in the value of stocks , which means the flow of money is leaning more towards S&P500 and more major stocks , and for investors their main objective is to hedge against risk during geopolitical instability , the dollar can be used as a mode of hedging against risk as its a reserve currency , meaning money flows out of the Japanese economy , out of the Japanese Government Bonds which has similar characteristics as the US bonds
that's why we saw a decline in the value of the yen , so aslong as the US stocks are rallying, we can expect to see more weakness.

2022 also did boost the Canadian dollar strength as the war between Russian and Ukraine resulted in certain sections being imposed, so the oil industry.

in a nut shell , one can not buy the yen when the major stocks are rallying ,

an increase in the value of stocks result in a decline in the value of the yen

United states of America is funding a lot of wars, keeps printing more and more money, already the Global markets have felt the impact of the USA printing more money and creating more debt.

that's why most currencies have reduced in buying the US bonds, the debt of the United States is no longer safe.

Question is if China does decide to invade Taiwan, will USA afford to defend Taiwan?

If I was China, the right time to invade Taiwan would probably be next year around the time of the presidential inauguration.
