Asked ab discourse (inc from Rep. Espaillat) around “gentrifier” insurgent lefty candidates, Mayor Mamdani says he appreciates everyone “helping to build this city.”
“I think we are at our best as a city when we don't distinguish btwn who deserves to call themselves a NYer.”
Very true. You really saw this with the Mamdani scavenger hunt last summer. Many Millennial and Generation Z New Yorkers have a really passionate civic pride in NYC – even though (or maybe because) they're much less patriotic about the U.S. in the Trump era.
Phenomenal profile of @DarializaforNY by my colleague @hollypret, who's been closely following the NY-13 primary for a while (even before Zohran endorsed Darializa!) https://t.co/6vmXwqnDlO
"Most athletes, when they tell you that no one believed in them, are lying. It is a lie more for themselves than anyone else. Michael Jordan was most famous for this. The beauty of Jalen Brunson is that this is not a lie. Brunson really has been doubted his entire career." https://t.co/EMRcTVM4EH
"It is different because New York’s mass unifying events tend to imply unbearable tragedy: 9/11, Sandy, Covid.
Maybe the disorientation of this championship run was that shared experiences in the city were allowed to be good, gleeful, uncomplicated." https://t.co/L5dRPXqh33
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 53 YEARS, THE KNICKS ARE NBA CHAMPIONS 🏆
New York defeats San Antonio 4-1 in the NBA Finals, capturing their third championship in franchise history!
The way our San Antonio Spurs and their fans have been treated in New York City has been disgraceful.
I realize it’s a small slice of the New York fan base that’s responsible but goddamn.
There is no “bandwagon”. Just like New York City is made better through immigration and transplants, Knicks fandom is so special right now **because** everyone is part of it.
So come in on. The water is warm (and stinky because it’s a puddle in NYC).
