🚨ALERT: The Braven "chemical recycling" facility appears shut down after environmental violations in North Carolina, underscoring "chemical recycling"’s persistent failures.

From 2021 to 2025, it generated 400+ tons of hazardous waste that it shipped to at least four different states for disposal.

Previous reporting documented operational problems and hazardous waste management issues, including the accumulation of hundreds of containers of hazardous waste, violations of hazardous waste storage rules, and questions about Braven’s ability to safely manage its toxic byproducts.

Beyond Plastics urges policymakers at all levels to stop treating pyrolysis and “chemical recycling” as credible solutions and instead focus on
✅ reducing plastic production,
✅ reducing toxic chemicals used to make plastic,
✅ funding waste reduction and reuse programs,
✅ and committing to protecting public health and the environment.

In Albany to put #PeopleOverPlastic with Assemblymember Glick and @PlasticsBeyond

[WASS_Peekskill @WASS_Peekskill]

Put #PeekskillOverPlastic and pass the PRRIA AND BBBB!

PRRIA= Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act
BBBB=Bigger Better Bottle Bill
Both would dramatically cut down on the plastics that pollute the planet and harm our health. #PeopleOverPlastic @PlasticsBeyond

Rising salinity in the East of Hudson Watershed threatens the fragile drinking water resources for millions of NYers, including many in Putnam and N. Westchester.

Today, I joined concerned officials in raising awareness of this issue.

Great to see this program is expanding, and it's very interesting to note there are penalties for apartment buildings that do not provide composting services for their residents (we hope the penalties are large enough to be a deterrent) https://t.co/0EAZXA7oWl via @gothamist

240+ orgs are joining together to demand @GovKathyHochul help New York households accelerate the transition to clean energy technology, which would improve air quality, lower bills, and reduce climate pollution. Read more: https://t.co/jhV0K4rAq1 #RenewableHeatNow #NYHEAT

This is a shortsighted plan that will increase the use of incinerators for trash disposal, cementing pollution in our trash disposal plan. @GovKathyHochul reject these requests! #wastetoenergy https://t.co/ngQovbJYk8 via @thesuffolktimes

Bravo to @MarionCo_OR for turning away from burning trash! We hope @westchestergov can follow suit! https://t.co/dvceLx3SlO via @WasteDive

.@BrianLehrer q for Latimer- in Congress what will he do about expired Title V Air permits the EPA is allowing the NYSDEC to leave expired? Like Westchester County's trash incinerator in Peekskill that expired in 2021. Pollution is harming health of Westchester county residents

From @NYCMayor to Comptroller, everyone concerned about affordability wants #NYHEAT.
But @CarlHeastie couldn't care less about affordability; he's more interested in protecting a handful of WNY @NYSA_Majority members from National Fuel Gas' wrath.

Listen to WASS founder Courtney Williams on The @BrianLehrer Show! Tell Albany to support the #NYHEAT Act, the Plastic Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act, and the Bigger Better Bottle Bill! @NYSenDemLeader @CarlHeastie https://t.co/WVtR4QKu4J

[WASS_Peekskill @WASS_Peekskill]

WASS sent a memo of support this week for the #NYHEAT Act to the @NYSA_Majority and @GovKathyHochul. The NY HEAT Act means cleaner heat and lower bills and a brighter future. NY HEAT must pass this session!
