Fantastic pre-conference at #NAEMSP2022. Definitely feel more prepared for my new roles in #WildernessEMS medical direction & made new friends as a bonus. Such an exciting & vast niche within our amazing subspecialty. Thanks to @benabo@willmd911@hawkvox for the great teaching!
Want to know the #GoodSamaritanLaws in your state? They could be beneficial for teaching citizen CPR and AED as well. These questions will undoubtedly come up and they will look to #EMSDocs for the answer.

As a #WildernessEMS physician, there's a paradox where your presence will lower the risk of a bad patient outcome, but may increase your own risk & exposure to litigation if that outcome is less-than-ideal.
Same can be said for any #EMSDoc in the #EMS environment.
#NAEMSP2022
Important point of distinction. If you are out in the field with a group, preparing to assess & provide field care as part of that group, it can be said you are "expecting" to have a pre-existing duty to care & therefore #GoodSamaritanLaws won't apply.
Discuss?
#NAEMSP2022
Very important for #EMSDocs, as we drive around sometimes in highly visible vehicles & may be expected to act because of who we are. You must know #GoodSamaritanLaws and your local regulations.

There is an interesting principle in the house of medicine that despite the evidence staring us in the face, no one wants to be the "first" one to operate outside the accepted standard.
It's time to kill dogma.

It's time to talk about the utility of cervical collars in the #WildernessEMS setting. Immobilization can really hamper rescue efforts & prolonged field care. Is it overused? What is the incidence of actual c-spine injuries?
