🇮🇸🇺🇬 Even as drought worsens across #Karamoja, gardens are still green at Pajar Primary School, Kaabong.

Today, the @IcelandinUganda delegation saw pupils tending budding gardens with drought-tolerant, iron-rich beans and vegetables under irrigation, hot meals cooked in fuel-efficient kitchens, & nutrition clubs where children take what they learn back to their communities.

This is all part of the @WFP school meals programme in partnership with @Educ_SportsUg & @OPMUganda, reaching 221,000 children across Karamoja, and supported by Iceland.

🇺🇬 Weekend good news from #Uganda!

Uganda has discharged its last #Ebola patient and entered the recommended 42-day countdown towards officially ending the outbreak, provided no new cases are detected.

While vigilance remains essential, this is an important milestone and a testament to the leadership of the @GovUganda.

@WFP is proud to support the response, having provided more than 19,000 meals to patients, contacts, and frontline health workers.👏

There’s usually some organization doing something in innovation. The landscape for helping starts in Uganda is so siloed that the only people benefiting are:

1) Really sneaky startups who know innovation managers, incubators, and accelerators aren’t talking to each other.

2) Accelerators etc who are handling huge amounts of cash from donors and development partners.

Today we spent an hour with the WFP Innovation Advisor and the Procurement finding out how we can make the ecosystem better and create more opportunities for startups.

This is #Karamoja 🇺🇬 as the El Niño-related drought tightens its grip. Across the region, nearly half a million people face crisis-level hunger. In the worst-hit districts, families are down to one meal a day. Food prices have more than doubled.

@WFP is supporting the Government of Uganda's response with food assistance through cash transfers, malnutrition prevention and treatment, and daily school meals for learners in 284 schools. But needs are outpacing available resources — more support is critical to addressing this crisis.

Hellen, 26, works in a mine in Karamoja — part-time, irregular work paying under $2 a day. That money is critical to her family’s survival, but it comes at the cost of time to care for her four children, raising their risk of malnutrition.

With nearly half a million people in the region facing hunger this lean season, a cash transfer from @WFP, with support from @OCHAFunds, means food on her family's table and healthier futures for her children.

Today at Entebbe cargo centre, a joint @StateDept-@CDCgov delegation saw the @WFP & @logcluster support to the Ebola response as critical cargo was loaded for onward movement to DRC, and received a briefing on the regional operation. With U.S. support, WFP is helping keep lifesaving supplies moving where they are needed most.

The Government, together with partners, has launched Uganda Anticipatory Action Roadmap (2025–2031) today at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe.

The roadmap is a landmark national framework that will shift the country’s approach to disaster management from responding to crises after they occur to taking early, forecast-based action before disasters strike.

The Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. @SamEngola3 launched the roadmap alongside Permanent Secretary, Mr @AlexKakooza_ and partners.

The results show progress toward a national school feeding policy—but significant gaps remain: only 46% of primary learners receive meals, and 30% go through the school day hungry.
