Been struggling for a few years to write/publish my family history research.
I have a website, I have dates, documents, information etc, but the writing feels so..."bland". How do I turn it from a list of dates and facts into a true family history story?

@danielmloftus@Project_Infant Consider one of my earliest links with someone in genealogy was a Music PHD they had written about one of my relatives which was basically an oral history/family history.
@danielmloftus@Project_Infant Not directly, but I think the connection is more either history/social studies type routes, with an emphasis on genealogy. Consider Project Infant has a historical/social element to it rather than just "genealogy". Perhaps worth exploring those routes?
@danielmloftus You've got way more guts than me to put yourself out there for the community. I don't think I could handle the comments I know I would encounter.
Either way, what I'm saying is - you're a better person than they are.
@danielmloftus I'm no legal expert, but I have some knowledge of FOI through work, soif you appeal you need to challenge one or more of the specific points. It's worth reading the actual act itself which is available online to understand what you're coming up against. Can I DM later?
@spfhhistory@UkNatArchives Love to make a Royal Navy contact, but it seems so strange that our relatives worked together. My 2 x Gt Grandfather was only 14 -16 at the time!
@spfhhistory@UkNatArchives Took me a few reads...!!
Just as a coincidence, my 2x gt grandfather may have been his shipmate - 1 Aug 1836 - 27 Sep 1838!
I'm not sure if you know, but Victory was at this point used as a training ship - my relative came through the Greenwich Hospital School.
@spfhhistory@UkNatArchives My 2x Gt Grandfather served until 1861, spending his later years on a steam powered Coast guard ship! My 3 x Gt Grandfather also served between about 1805 - 1828 including on the Royal Yacht!
I'm trying to research and write their adventures up in a historical bio/fiction...!
Working through my #Ancestry DNA matches is amazing. Working through the linked trees . So far: 8 on my paternal grandmother line, 1 on my paternal grandfather line, and one on my Polish maternal grandfather line! Still nothing on paternal gt grandfather and above though....
Reaching out to the #genealogy community as I'm feeling pretty dumb right now.
Looking at the bottom burial record specifically. Wondering why the X vs the words on the other entries? And why the tick at the end of the row? Pauper grave or something?
Got the @Ancestry DNA results back for myself and my husband. Any suggestions of good reading/watching material. I'm already stumped on his Gt Grandfathers line (a long term brick wall), as some matches are showing as half marches but to the Gt Grandmother?
Finally did it. Despite my fears of being a) cloned b) framed for serious crimes ... I've sent off my @Ancestry DNA kit. I'm hoping my 3x Gt Grandfather may have had more children in South Africa after he went in 1833!
@DanielGenealogy Probably a smaller niche, which means overall less potential audience but usually also less competition - which in turn means people can find you at the top of the search results! Congrats and great job!!
