Pet peeve after offering a kid a scholarship…
Comment from Current Adult in their Life: “Congrats! First of many! Can’t wait to see the many more offers to come!”
Me: “How about I withdraw my offer & leave y’all to go collect 100 more offers to feel validated? 🤣”
Moral of the story — You need the ONE right offer to have a successful college career, not 100 offers to get likes online.
Don’t push kids to collect a million offers just to have them. You want the RIGHT offer to go have a successful, fulfilling career!
Players: If ANY college coach reaches out, PLEASE reply in a timely manner! We all know you're always on your phone & can see if you have read the text. You are not above any program! Every level (NAIA, JUCO, to D1) is a life changing opportunity. If you're not interested, politely reply & tell them! They need to move on to the next guy. Their time is valuable! Be RESPECTFUL! 💪🏻
Players: When you commit to a school, please be sure to reach out to the coaches who were recruiting you from other schools. Don't let them find out via social media or from someone else.
Ideally, you should call them. Thank them for recruiting you, showing interest, & giving you an opportunity. You never want to burn a bridge, especially with the landscape of college athletics. The coach you turn down today could be the coach to change your life tomorrow! Do the right thing! They might be upset, but they will respect you for it. 👊🏻
Pitchers: Develop your changeup. Don't avoid it because it's not comfortable. Play catch with it every day. If you're watching the playoffs, you see how lethal it is. Fastball, change piece mix gets a lot of outs!
“Not one of those hitters, hips are rotating past about 70 degrees. The easiest way to hit the ball harder, cleaner and more often is to get your body in a better position to throw your punch”

Players/parents looking for recruiting tips etc…our entire 18u team is committed to play in college. We’ve had two division 1 pitching commits in the last few days with more to come and a first round draft pick sign for over three million dollars a few years ago. You don’t have to listen to me but here you go. you can do all the lessons and go to all the showcases you want. Two major things coaches at the next level look for is 1) is he strong and 2) do they move well. The greatest swing or arm in the world doesn’t mean a lot of your kid doesn’t look like he can move athletically, or change direction quickly. Your 14 year old can skip the hitting lesson this week and pick up some weights. Take that for what it’s worth.
"REAL" players want structure, organization, accountability, extremely high standards and extraordinary expectations. They want to share the dugout with like-minded players chasing greatness.
I’m extremely excited to announce I have committed to Muskingum University to continue my athletic and academic career. I’d like to thank my family, friends and coaches who have pushed me through this journey. Go Muskies!
Players....Big difference between Thanks and Thank You. Get in the habit of using highly respectful vocabulary. Eliminate, man-dude-yea-nah-etc. from your vocabulary when talking to coaches/teachers/adults/etc. Being respectful is an all the time thing.

Parents, I’ve gotta address something because I think the kids are too young to understand. Injuries happen, it’s understandable and unfortunately part of the game. For some reason, people seem to forget that doesn’t mean the kid is not on the TEAM anymore. When I was young, if a player got hurt they still went to their team’s games and supported their teammates. I understand if the games are in another state and hotels are involved then yes Ofcourse you don’t need to blow thousands of dollars traveling but if your son or daughter is hurt and can’t play and the team has a game, they should still go support their teammates. That’s what COMMITTMENT to a TEAM means.
Hitters: The only thing you can control during an at-bat is literally.. YOU!
You can’t control:
- The pitcher
- Fielders making plays vs you
- Umpire making 'good or bad' calls
You can control:
- Trusting process > Forcing results
- Consistent routine
- Breathing + heart rate
I know that people think @NAIABall isn’t a high level of baseball. However I just watched two number ones dual it out this afternoon. One guy sat 90-93 and the other 91-95! There is some really great baseball in the NAIA!
