How the fuck are people on minimum wage supposed to survive in the UK?
Not everyone can “get a better job.” Not everyone has a partner to split the bills with. Not everyone can move back in with their parents.
Someone still has to stack shelves, clean hospitals, serve food and keep the country running.
Yet people are working full-time, watching their entire wages disappear on rent and bills, then spending the rest of the month praying nothing goes wrong.
We’ve somehow accepted that if you’re on minimum wage, you’re just supposed to struggle.
Minimum wage no longer covers the basics. Something needs to change.
Naaaaaa @NandosUK you guys are mocking us. First your prices are a joke and now you’ve taken away a 1/4 chicken and two sides??? And replaced it with one side and a bottomless.
So now my minimum meal is gonna run me £16+
Change it back!
Lmao. In 1986, a U.S. Navy helicopter crew pulled off a great prank.
As the USS America was being relieved by the USS John F. Kennedy in the Indian Ocean, sailors from HS-11 acquired three piglets, dyed them red, white, and blue, covered them in grease, and dropped them onto Kennedy’s flight deck from a Sea King.
To add another layer to the prank, the helicopter crew numbered the pigs 1, 2, and 4.
🚨What on earth is this about?
The Met have listed a misconduct hearing for PC Faitha Sunday (26–28 August) because, while trying to calm a small child having a panic attack in Lewisham Town Centre, she rubbed the child’s leg to soothe them.
That’s the allegation.
An officer doing the most basic, human thing possible — trying to comfort a distressed kid — is now facing a formal process that could cost her the job.
Apparently a comforting touch is now “inappropriate.”
This is the Met at its most absurd: turning basic compassion into a disciplinary offence while the streets stay chaotic.
If this is what counts as misconduct, no wonder good officers are walking away.

Council tax in 2000 was £800 a year on average. Today it's over £2,000. That's up 150%. What are you getting for it? Less bins, fewer libraries, & worse roads
The UK minimum wage for someone working 37.5 hours a week works out to roughly £1,800 a month after tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
Out of that £1,800, you still need to pay rent, council tax, gas, electricity, water, internet, food, transport, insurance, and every other bill that comes with being an adult.
Yet people will still tell you that anyone struggling financially must be wasting money somewhere.
The real question isn't how people are surviving on £1,800 a month
It's how anyone thinks that's supposed to be enough in 2026.
At this point prices in The UK are just made up:
What do you mean a return train to London is £140?
How is a weekend away in England £600? I can go abroad for a week for that!
Why is a house that was £700 a month a few years ago now £1500 a month?
How is a full tank of fuel now costing more than £100?
Why is my car insurance going up every year on the same car with no claims?
How is 2 carrier bags of shopping costing me nearly £100?
We're honestly done aren't we.
Well there you have it.
The CPS have made their decision.
There’s no point being annoyed or aghast, it won’t change anything.
But this statement will make up minds that were on the fence.
More Police Officers will leave.
I’ve already spoken to 5 this week.

"Hurt" is not an original by Johnny Cash. The song was written by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) in 1994 for the album The Downward Spiral. Rick Rubin had to insist several times on Cash recording his version, at first Johnny found the idea completely insane because the original version is industrial and noisy. At 71, already very ill, almost blind and with trembling hands, Cash completely transformed the band.
The iconic video, directed by Mark Romanek, was filmed at the House of Cash (his own museum). June Carter Cash appears looking at him fondly, the video was shot in February 2003, a few months before she died (May) and Johnny himself (September).
Trent Reznor was so moved that he declared, "This song is not mine anymore." It is considered one of the best covers of all time.
The salary you actually need to feel comfortable in the UK in 2026 has more than doubled in the last 15 years.
In 2010, £35,000 was a solid graduate salary. You could rent decently, eat out, take a holiday, save a bit.
In 2026, the equivalent number — same lifestyle, same level of comfort — is closer to £75,000.
That's the difference between 'affording your life' and 'getting by.' £35K used to put you on the comfortable side of that line. £75K is now the entry point.
Most people earning £45-£60K in 2026 are quietly running paycheck to paycheck, feeling vaguely confused about why a salary that sounds substantial doesn't actually go very far.
I am so fed up with bills I can’t justify and nor should they 2 years ago £30 a month for my water last year £65 and one year later a 25% increase now £81 a month????! I feel like refusing until wages go up by
25% too - council tax nearly £300 a month this is fucking insane
I’ll ignore all the deport comments.
You’ll have to accept I’m staying.
Would I fight for the government. No.
Would I fight for you guys. Yes! 🫡

In 2018 @Channel4 Dispatches went undercover inside the Financial Ombudsman Service @financialombuds .
What they found should have ended careers and triggered a full parliamentary inquiry.
Investigators admitting they had absolutely no idea what they were doing. Binding decisions made on complex financial cases by people who Googled the products first. Cases closed in favour of banks because it was simply easier.
When a Member of Parliament came to inspect the service, managers staged fake sessions to make it look professional. They deliberately misled parliament.
Watch the clip.
Then ask yourself this one question.
If this was happening in 2018, and the Treasury Committee demanded answers, and an independent review was promised, and nothing changed... what has been happening to your complaint ever since?
I know the answer. I have lived it for over five years.
In 2024 Warwick University researchers found the real consumer uphold rate was 24%, not the 37% FOS advertises. FOS leadership collapsed under unexplained circumstances. Staff are still posting anonymous reviews in 2025 and 2026 describing the exact same toxic culture, the same impossible targets, the same broken system.
This is not a coincidence. This is a pattern.
The FOS Litigation Group is building. A judicial review is coming. Every person who has been failed by this organisation, every person watching this and recognising their own story, I am asking you to join this fight now.

Last year water company fat cats raked in a £15million bonanza, shareholders have been paid another £900 million, and all while bills have increased anything up to 54%, WCs have been found guilty of 1200 criminal offences and not a single industry executive has ever been prosecuted.
Getting tough on the industry?! Really?!

England water company bosses raked in £15m+ in pay/perks last yr.
£900m dividends paid. Customer bills up 26%.
Companies have 1200 criminal convictions. Fines not collected.
Sewage dumping killing people.
No exec prosecuted.
End the scam. Nationalise.

Guyana is the only English-speaking South American country, but the BBC decided to gaslight its president.
Kudos to President @DrMohamedIrfaa1 ( a Muslim btw) for BBC’s Stephen Sackur firmly in his place as @JamesMelville highlighted

The closing of the live version of "Sultans of Swing" is one of the most memorable moments in Dire Straits' history.
Recorded on "A Night in London" (1996), this performance features an instrumental ending of about three minutes that does not appear on the studio recording, and that's precisely where the magic happens.
