Meetings with the minister of @MoH_Somalia@DrAliHajiadam, partners, frontline health workers, & @WHOSom’s teams reinforced a shared commitment to ending polio, expanding immunization, and reaching 700,000 missed children. #EndPolio#VaccinesWork
This week, Dr @jGuudle, @WHOEMRO Director for Polio Eradication and Vaccine-Preventable Diseases, visited Somalia to strengthen partnerships and accelerate efforts to reach every child with lifesaving vaccines.
Our teams and frontline health workers in #Somalia are at the heart of our efforts to strengthen immunization services and #EndPolio.
I was deeply moved to hear firsthand about their extraordinary work to reach children and communities, often in the face of recurrent drought, insecurity and multiple emergencies. They are the bridge between health services and the people who need them most.
To each of you: thank you. Your courage, dedication and resilience do not go unnoticed.
@WHOSom
It was an honour to meet H.E. @DrAliHajiadam Minister of Health of Somalia, alongside Dr Mohammed Ali Kamil, Acting Country Representative of @WHOSom.
Together, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to reach every child in Somalia — including the 700,000 children who are still being missed — with polio vaccines and other essential health services.
With continued leadership, partnership and community engagement, we can accelerate progress towards a polio-free Somalia.

𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 📸 – Maternal and newborn health remains a priority in Somalia, where access to skilled care, emergency services and nutrition can make a life-saving difference for mothers and babies.
Through @UNICEFSomalia and @WHOSom, the @UN supports efforts to strengthen these essential services, helping build healthier families and communities.
Shown here, advanced monitoring equipment and neonatal warmers ensure that babies receive specialized care at Garowe General Hospital.
1.88M children in Somalia face acute malnutrition, putting their health at risk. With @OCHAFunds & Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) Partners, WHO is delivering mobile health care and nutrition screening to drought-affected communities. @IPCInfo, @WHOEMRO, @MoH_Somalia
In Somalia, health teams stopped leading with the vaccine and began to lead by listening with social mobilizers who built trust. Then, the vaccination followed. Trust, it turned out, was the hardest and most important thing to deliver. #EndPolio
In the month of #April, @UNinSomalia delivered support towards #Somalia's development priorities including training women entrepreneurs, working with teachers on vaccination and providing shelter for the displaced.

Two mothers. One hospital door.
Dahiro never vaccinated her kids, not from refusal, but from not knowing. Nafisa fled drought, then a measles outbreak. One visit changed both families. That's what "one-stop" care actually means. @UNCERF@WHOSom@acfusa

Our sincere thanks to the Government of Japan for supporting emergency trauma care in conflict-affected districts. This partnership enhances trauma referral pathways and preparedness for mass casualty incidents, helping ensure timely life-saving care. @JapaninSomalia@MoH_Somalia
Ending #polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases requires more than vaccines — it requires trust. In #Somalia, madrasa teachers are helping reach children, counter misinformation, and strengthen confidence in immunization.
Partnerships between educators, religious leaders and health workers are key to reaching every child and advancing health security for all.

Europe’s commitment to a polio-free world is reflected in the @EU_Commission and @EIB support not just for vaccination campaigns but the health systems and communities that make eradication possible.
This #WorldImmunizationWeek, thank you for that vision. #EndPolio
