Human rights belong to all of us. They are non-negotiable.
We all have a role to play in upholding them for every human being.

As world leaders gather at the #UNGA, marking 80 years of the @UN, we also look back on eight decades of peacekeeping.
Since 1948, the UN has deployed more than 70 peacekeeping operations, standing as one of the most powerful examples of the world’s commitment to peace.
“Around the world, we see countries acting as if the rules don’t apply to them.“
@antonioguterres warns that impunity has spawned some of the most atrocious conflicts of our times.
“We see humans treated as less than human. And we must call it out.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres at #UNGA:
"International cooperation is not naïveté. It is hard-headed pragmatism… No country can stop a pandemic alone. No army can halt rising temperatures. No algorithm can rebuild trust once it is broken."

What if bare fields could turn green again?
In Africa’s drylands, communities are proving it’s possible. Through the Regreening Africa initiative, 350,000+ hectares of land have been restored with simple, proven techniques.

As world leaders gather in NY for the 80th #UNGA, renewed financial and political investment is critical to ensure @UN Peacekeeping can continue to serve as one of the world’s most effective tools for international peace and security.
Now is the time to invest in peace, not war.
Situation of thousands of civilians detained since #Russia’s full-scale invasion of #Ukraine is detailed in @UNHumanRights report.
Detention of Ukrainian civilians outside effective protection of the law in the occupied territory has contributed to an oppressive environment & climate of fear.

We must choose what kind of world we want to build together.
We must choose peace rooted in international law.
We must choose human rights & dignity.
We must choose climate justice.
We must choose to put technology at the service of humanity.
We must choose to strengthen the @UN.

“No matter the challenge. No matter the obstacle. No matter the hour.
We must — and we will — overcome.”
@antonioguterres urges world leaders at the UN General Assembly to never give up the fight for peace, dignity and justice for all.

It is clear we must act on climate change and move away from fossil fuels. How will this affect you and your community?
A just transition means tackling climate change in a way that protects people’s rights — jobs with dignity, affordable energy, and a safe environment. It’s about making sure the green economy is built on human rights, not at their expense.
Workers need retraining and decent jobs with safety nets to fall back on. Families should be able to rely on clean, affordable energy. Communities deserve a say in decisions that shape their future. Countries with fewer resources need steady support to build sustainable futures. And people everywhere should have social security and other protections that protect against the impacts of climate change and economic change.

“UNICEF urgently calls on the de facto authorities to lift this devastating ban and allow every girl in Afghanistan to attend school—from primary to secondary and beyond.”

Yemen faces one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
Nearly a decade of conflict has left civilians at risk, yet UNHCR and partners continue delivering life-saving support. Humanitarian access, funding and lasting peace are essential.
“Our times demand more than posturing and promises.
They demand that leaders make progress and follow through.”
