They still can reduce the numbers via plumenting birth rates eg. Europe, China etc. curtailing trade so no more mega cities in the deserts. Can be done in 1 or 2 generations np.

@ofpeace1974 Yes. Central banks also really started to show up throughout the 19thC. Balance sheet expansion is what makes this rapid progress possible. Poland is the best contemporary example, countless theories about its "success" but 90 % is the gvt deficit and CB BS expansion.
@ofpeace1974 Sure . Platonic month is ~2100 yrs but there is no doubt that the pace of progress increased dramatically. 1780 is basically a dawn of Industrial Revolution not to mention the French Revolution and softening of the rigid social structures.
