On 12 June 1996, two Australian Army Black Hawk helicopters collided near Townsville. In the accident, 18 people lost their lives – 15 from the Special Air Service Regiment and three from the 5th Aviation Regiment. Today we remember the fallen and the survivors.

Today I had the privilege of attending the Catalina A24-64 Commemorative Ceremony in Cairns.
During the ceremony a plaque was unveiled to honour the nine crew members from No 43 Squadron Catalina A24-64, lost 14 December 1944 on Mindoro Island in the Phillipines during WW2.
