Health, safety, and performance decrements from sleep loss are significant threats in the field. Our current research aims to leverage emerging commercial wearable technologies to monitor sleep, which will facilitate early interventions to possibly prevent catastrophic outcomes.

Short sleep and sustained wakefulness are inevitable in the field. We are testing and validating brain stimulation technology, such as transcranial electrical and acoustic stimulation, in order to enhance sleep and slow the decline of performance during continuous operations.

Regularly getting less than the recommended 7+ hrs of sleep is a common problem for Soldiers. Our research is using cutting edge technology to identify novel biomarkers underlying the effects of chronic sleep restriction to inform targeted interventions to improve readiness.
