@CraigBaird@CraigBaird I enjoy your pieces on Cdn history - very informative. Not trying to be negative but the B.C. Regiment did not land on DDay. They landed in Normandy in late July. I share this for accuracy, not to take away from your work. Please keep sharing stories on Cdn history.
Wonderful positive story on the Canadian Military , an example of applicable diversity, how we can function very well together in spite of differences. Thank you @DouglasTodd ,@VancouverSun ,@CanadianForces
Consul General Baudouin, @N_BaudouinCG it was a wonderful to have you there and share our history with you. We look forward to welcome you again soon to one of our other events @WRDIAMOND
Canadian Alamo in Normandy.
#OTD in 1944 Worthington Force, a battlegroup of the British Columbia and Algonquin Regiments, was destroyed after a hard day's fighting.
This air photo, the most remarkable I've seen in my years of research, shows the fight in progress.

Visited @visitMONOVA with NV City Mayor @LindaCBuchanan , HLCOL @WRDIAMOND and Commanding Officer of the BC Regiment LCOL @vincentvirk to see if the rumour of my quote on the wall was correct. Sure enough it was 😊. Left with a smile, cuz it’s true.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and National War Memorial are sacred sites for our country. I urge all Canadians to treat them with solemnity, out of respect for those who have fought and died for Canada.
The behaviour we’re seeing today is beyond reprehensible.
I am sickened to see protesters dance on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and desecrate the National War Memorial. Generations of Canadians have fought and died for our rights, including free speech, but not this. Those involved should hang their heads in shame.
I sincerely congratulate General Wayne Eyre on his appointment as Chief of the Defence Staff. General Eyre and I will continue to work together to build a military where all members feel safe, protected, and respected, wherever they are, whatever they are doing.
As we learned of the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, this morning, I express on behalf of all members of the Canadian Armed Forces our deepest condolences.
