Saturday was the London Inter-School Maths Battle!
During the break, we had a guest lecture - thank you to Ben Sparks for showing us the magic of maths.
Well done to all of the teams for solving several difficult problems - I was in awe at the elegance of some solutions.
Over the past few weeks, Papplewick School has hosted a 'mini league' of Battles, with St. Paul's Junior school winning Monday's final.
Many thanks to Mrs. Tudoran for organising this! It'd be great for Maths Battles Leagues to spread to lots more schools, so please reach out.
We're thrilled to announce that WSP will feature in two of Ekaterina Eremenko's films being shown at the ICM!
The first looks at Maths Circles across the globe and the second highlights the 1729 Maths Camp, with whom we work closely, both with problems and tutors.
The *new* most Northern Circle! (in England, that is)
This Saturday we opened our newest Maths Circle, in Durham. Thank you to @durham_uni Department of Mathematical Sciences for supporting us in this beautiful city!
Saturday was our second Western Inter-School Maths Battle, with teams from our Circles in Bath, Bristol and Cardiff.
This event included a fantastic talk from Professor Oliver Johnson.
We'd also like to thank Henna Koivusalo, who helps us with all of the logistics in Bristol.

Sunday was our London Verbal Maths Challenge: as part of this, students who hope to join our London Maths Circles tackled unfamiliar problems and talked through their thinking with our tutors.
We hope all the students enjoyed grappling with the problems and sharing their ideas!
What are our tutors' favourite problems? Take a look below, including from Jan, our head of curriculum, and Ziheng, one of our curriculum advisors.
Thank you to Aman and Sasha as well for their problems!
Check out our problems website https://t.co/anAwvnoEEW.
We've expanded in Cambridge! This weekend saw our second Circle at @pembroke1347.
The first session was on the two-player game Nim - students go from playing against each other to working together on solving problems of strategy and more.
This video looks at Maths Circle programs around the world https://t.co/YyoubrjIUY, including when We Solve Problems started, with Elena running the Circle and Battle. Thank you to https://t.co/rb8KPPE4Wg for the video.
Spaceships, guns and phoenixes? The Circles this week were looking at Conway's Game of Life.
Our tutors gave demonstrations on how the patterns evolved, and the students themselves tried out different patterns to see which would die out and which would live indefinitely.
We hope you've had a festive break and are ready for a new term. Most Circles will start up again this coming weekend of Saturday 10th January and Sunday 11th January.
We've got a lot to look forward to this term, including the London Verbal Maths Challenge February 8th.
