🔥BIGGEST POLL SINCE LEADBEATER BILL INTRODUCED FINDS PUBLIC OPPOSE RETURN OF ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL!
In a major development, a landmark new MRP poll of 10,000+ adults, has found that legalising assisted suicide came rock bottom of a list of voters’ priorities for their MP.🧵1/
New survey by @WStoneInsight only 4 in 10 MPs who initially supported #assistedsuicide Bill can now be definitively relied upon to vote for it again https://t.co/ymyrd7rSC7
I still can’t believe Parliament has legalised abortion up to the moment of birth. We live in a country where it is illegal to hunt a fox - or indeed to sell a drinking straw made of plastic - but lawful to kill a human baby. We have lost our way.
NEW polling: today we find that nearly 7 in 10 Scots fear that domestic abuse victims will be pressured into ending their own lives if assisted dying is made law.
Exclusively @heraldscotland as MSPs vote on Liam McArthur MSPs Assisted Death Bill:
- TWICE as many Scots agreed (vs disagreed) MSPs should REJECT a law that would bring more risk to domestic abuse victims.
- THREE times as many agreed that safeguarding would not be able to detect domestic abuse in assisted dying.
- 68% said they feared that victims of DA will be pressured into ending their own lives.
Concern was strongest among women.
This new polling for @OtherHalfOrg by @WStoneInsight has nearly 7 in 10 Scots fearing that domestic abuse victims will be pressured into 'choosing' to die.
The penalty for coercion into assisted dying will be MAXIMUM 12 months in prison:

It was an inspirational and excellent day yesterday as I joined other leaders at the launch of @stewardshipnews' Generosity Report, led by Janie Oliver. So much rich information and brilliant input from panellists and speakers on different aspects of the report and giving habits and trends amongst Christians in the UK.
The data was really insightful and it was great hearing from Andrew Hawkins (@PigsAndPolling) , CEO of @WStoneInsight, who worked with Stewardship to produce the figures behind the report. Alongside the numbers, what stood out for me was how critical trust was, when it came to why people give, and to who. And it was particularly uplifting to hear that the number one reason for giving is gratitude.
As I reflected on the findings of the report I really enjoyed hearing from the panellists and speakers including @BishopAngaelos, Olivia Amartey and @biblesociety's Dr Rhiannon McAleer. The day was importantly bookended with a Bible reflection from Dr Lucy Peppiatt and prayer from Bishop @_mikeroyal.
It was an excellent day and alongside the content it was so good to catch up with many friends and colleagues as well as making new connections. Grateful to Clare Walker and the Stewardship team for an excellent day.

🚨 Breaking: Government confirms end of Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme. It will be replaced by a £230 million package to protect and preserve heritage buildings, including listed places of worship. We welcome this, but there's a catch. Churches will now have to pay tax.

We were delighted to provide the polling for this report - a hugely important issue which is foundational to our understanding of the culture in which we live
NEW REPORT: History should be taught to all children up to the age of 16. The call has been endorsed by the distinguished historians Niall Ferguson @nfergus , Lord (Andrew) Roberts @aroberts_andrew and Dominic Sandbrook ('The Rest is History') @dcsandbrook .
At present, most children (55%) stop learning history at 14. That is why our exclusive new poll reveals such little knowledge of history among young adults. Three quarters say they don't know about Admiral Nelson. More than half say they don't know about Oliver Cromwell, a vital figure in the development of our democracy.
Britain is an outlier among OECD countries in not teaching history up to the age of 16. This should be changed so we give a rounded education to the citizens and voters of the future. Press release and report below.
