NEWS: @WWF_Sharks in partnership with @ElasmoProject, @jcu, & @WCSocean launch the Shark and Ray Recovery Initiative (SARRI) to recover some of the most threatened 🦈 #sharks & #rays in their last refuges around the world! More▶️https://t.co/B6O3m7wJjs & https://t.co/M0NV0qgiMV
[6/6] While these species have already been lost in some places, we can still save these - as well as 200+ other highly threatened sharks & rays💪But we must urgently start recovering them before it's too late⌛️Join the #SARRI movement to help save them➡️ https://t.co/VhbpHkvH3T
[5/6] 🦈Grey reef shark population - once one of the most common reef sharks in the Indo-Pacific - has declined by up to 60%❗️Threatened by #overfishing🎣🚢 and loss of coral reefs🪸 due to climate change🔥, it's likely been lost from individual reefs, if not whole countries...
[4/6] The iconic largetooth sawfish🪚🐟 is disappearing from many parts of our blue planet, including East Africa🌍. Overfished in quite a few locations, it's possibly extinct in 🇸🇨the Seychelles and 🇿🇦South Africa, where St. Lucia estuary was once an important breeding ground!
[3/6] Even though there's still a lot left to learn about the tentacled butterfly🦋ray, this species is disappearing too... This bottom-dwelling ray of the northern Indian Ocean is possibly extinct in🇵🇰Pakistan and🇮🇳India, where it was last seen 36 and 49 years ago respectively!
[2/6] Angelshark 😇🦈 is disappearing from the European Atlantic⚠️ Once common in shallow sandy areas of the Northeast Atlantic, today it's rare and has disappeared from places like🇩🇪Germany, 🇳🇴Norway, 🇸🇪Sweden or 🇳🇱the Netherlands, where the last individual was caught in 1977.

⚠️ 71% - that's how much oceanic 🦈 & ray populations have dropped since the 1970s! These ancient animals have inhabited our 🌏since the time of 🦕🦖, helping to shape the ocean millions of us depend on. #ForALivingPlanet, we need their numbers to recover! https://t.co/uvDInYWlIi
#BREAKING! Species population numbers have plummeted by 69% on average since 1970. 🚨
Nature is sending us an SOS: our life-line is in danger.💔
We need to turn things around – now. RT if you're with us #ForALivingPlanet! #LivingPlanet#LPR2022
Oceanic sharks and rays are vital to a healthy #ocean and – in turn – the well-being of people, too.
But we're losing them. Since the 1970s, oceanic shark & ray populations have plummeted by 71%.
