The 4th #NalafemSummit2025 opened with fire.
Aya Chebbi reminded us: “When we see a woman rising, we show up.”
@WachukaMacharia followed: “Representation is entry, but power is ownership.”
This isn’t about being included — it’s about leading.
Simply adding new faces to an old system isn’t enough. When the structure itself is flawed, real change requires us to rethink and rebuild from the ground up. That’s how we move from representation to transformation.

Thank you for granting me the honour to speak on a matter so profound, so pressing, and so pivotal to our shared humanity. An issue that demands not only our attention, but our collective conscience and courageous action.
It has been 13 years of service in the public sector, a privilege I take with quiet pride and deep reflection. My journey has been defined not by the fleeting winds of popularity, but by an unwavering commitment to integrity, ethics, and an apolitical ethos that places the public interest above all else.
To serve the people of Kenya with consistency and impact close to a decade and a half requires more than professional competence—it demands a steadfast moral compass, the discipline to focus amidst distraction, and the courage to remain principled even when doing so is neither easy nor popular.
I have always believed that public service is not a stage for self-promotion but a sacred trust, and I have done my utmost to honour that trust with humility and diligence.
Politically motivated commentary or attempted character attacks—however persistent—do not shake my commitment. They are the noise around the work, not the work itself. The dignity of service lies not in who praises or criticizes you, but in how faithfully you serve.
To all who continue to serve quietly and with integrity: stay the course. Kenya needs you.
I have received with profound sadness, the news of the passing of my dear friend and senior counsel, Ms. Judy Thongori, one of Kenya’s most distinguished legal practitioners.
Ms. Thongori was a trailblazer in the legal profession and a passionate advocate for justice, particularly in matters affecting families, women and children. We worked closely during our time at FIDA-Kenya, where I served as Chairperson, and she led the Legal Department with unmatched dedication and brilliance in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Her leadership was instrumental in positioning FIDA-Kenya as a formidable force in using the law to protect the rights, interests, and dignity of vulnerable women, children and the family well-being.
Ms. Thongori personified the promise of the law as a tool for empowerment. Her pivotal contributions to advocacy, family law reform, and shaping legal practice at the Family Division of the High Court profoundly impacted the development of family law in Kenya and inspired a generation of legal professionals.
After her remarkable tenure at FIDA-Kenya, Ms. Thongori transitioned to private practice, where she rose to prominence as one of the country’s foremost family law practitioners. Her commitment to sharing knowledge and mentoring young advocates further underscored her dedication to advancing the legal profession. Her insights and expertise were evident even in recent times. Just last November, during the Supreme Court @ 12 Conference, Ms. Thongori enriched a panel discussion on emerging family law jurisprudence emanating from the Supreme Court of Kenya. Her contributions to the legal discourse, particularly in family law and human rights, leave behind a lasting and transformative legacy.
On behalf of the Judiciary and on my own behalf, I extend my deepest condolences to her husband, John, her family, friends, and the entire legal fraternity during this difficult time.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire us all.
We celebrate @WachukaMacharia who was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear for her work towards access to justice and protection. This award is given in honour of individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to the public.
