Zohran Mamdani’s message to Donald Trump after his historic NYC mayoral win:
“New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant. So hear me, President Trump, when I say this: to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”
Breaking News: Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker from Queens, will be the 111th mayor of New York. He will be the first Muslim to ever lead the city, as well as its first South Asian mayor and the youngest mayor in more than a century.

Congratulations, @ZohranKMamdani , on an incredible win!
You’ve shown what’s possible when we bring more ideas to the table, and put people first.
A powerful reminder that change starts with us.

At a time when the odds feel so stacked against working-class people,
the people of New York made history.
They elected someone who will fight for them.
Despite all the odds and powerful interests stacked against him,
@ZohranKMamdani won.
Congratulations!!! ✊🏽💪🏽

Happy World Teachers Day to my first teacher, my ammi, my Hero, and all the great teachers out there!

"Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care." – John C. Maxwell
An inclusive classroom is more than just a place to learn—it’s a space where each student feels safe, cared for, and empowered. Below are some important components I always put into place starting on the first day:
1. Entrance Door display Classroom Expectations and Greetings in Many Languages
The classroom door and whiteboard will display class expectations and greetings in multiple languages, reflecting our class's cultural and linguistic diversity. This ensures that students see themselves represented the moment they walk in and know they belong.
2. Seating Arrangements that Build Community
For the first few days, students will sit beside each other in a friendly, close-knit setup to make it easier to participate in icebreaker activities and get to know new peers. Over time, the seating arrangement will change to suit student preferences, learning needs, and collaborative opportunities.
3. Diverse Classroom Library
Display of books at the front and our bookshelves will feature stories from many cultures, with themes of identity, diversity, kindness, and inclusion. These books will serve as mirrors to see ourselves and windows to see others’ lives and experiences.
4. Student Calendar Leadership
I always keep my calendar very simple and accessible for all learners using Velcro. Even though we will be in Grade 5, students will be responsible for creating and maintaining our classroom calendar. This promotes ownership of classroom routines while strengthening organization, time management, and accountability skills.
5. Carpet as a Community Space
Our carpet will be the heart of our classroom. We will gather here for read-alouds, community circles, group work, and class discussions.
6. Classroom Rules
Together, using white dry-erase paper, we will co-create our classroom rules—because when students take ownership, they respond better.
7. Classroom Jobs
From the very beginning, each student will have a classroom job. These responsibilities will help us work together, build independence, and strengthen our classroom community. This also helps students feel valued and builds leadership and responsibility from day one.
8. Bulletin Boards that Inspire Growth and Belonging
Displays will feature reminders about kindness, compassion, inclusion, identity, diversity, and a growth mindset. These serve as daily affirmations and set the tone for respectful, supportive learning.
9. Peace Corner for Social-Emotional Needs
Last but not least, I believe that every classroom needs a space for emotional well-being. In my classroom, I always have a corner for our students to go and relax to meet their social and emotional needs. Since last year, we have called it a peace corner. Earlier, I used to call it a quiet corner. "Peace Corner" will remain available for students to relax and regulate their emotions. This corner acknowledges the importance of mental well-being and helps meet students’ social and emotional needs.
So excited for Tuesday, Sep 2nd 2025!

@JBradshaw01 Couldnt agree more with you Jason! I always try to know my students first and work on creating bonding with them. My teaching philosophy lies in John Maxwell's quote, "Children don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
