Now that's a Testimony! Thanks Steve for Sharing! @IAmSteveHarvey
The only thing that saved me was my momma's prayers. 🙏🏽
Roger Staubach won the Heisman, served in Vietnam, won two Super Bowls, and made about $25,000 as an NFL rookie.
Thirty nine years after that rookie season, he sold his company for $613 million.
And here's the part almost nobody knows.
By the time he sold it, he only owned 12 percent of it.
Start at the beginning.
Staubach won the Heisman at Navy in 1963. Then he honored his full military commitment, including a tour in Vietnam, before he ever played a down of professional football.
He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1969 as a 27 year old rookie. Salary: $25,000.
By the end of his career in 1979, after two Super Bowl wins, five Super Bowl appearances and an MVP, he was making around $160,000 a year.
That's the whole football fortune. Total NFL earnings estimated around $600,000.
So starting in 1970, after his rookie season, he got an offseason job.
A Naval Academy friend connected him to Henry S. Miller Co., a big commercial real estate firm in Texas. He started in the insurance division and talked them into letting him work the real estate side.
His words: "I worked every offseason until I decided that I wanted to make real estate a future for me, outside of football."
Every single offseason. For a decade. While quarterbacking the Dallas Cowboys.
He retired from football in 1980 and formed The Staubach Company in 1982.
His idea was unfashionable at the time. Everybody in commercial real estate represented landlords. Staubach decided to represent TENANTS, the people looking for space, whose interests nobody was protecting.
That's now standard practice across the industry. It's called tenant representation. He essentially built the category.
By 2008 the company had around 50 offices in North America and over 1,100 employees, and a 52 percent market share in Dallas.
That June, JLL bought it for $613 million.
Now the equity thing.
Over the years Staubach had been giving stock away to his own people. More than 300 employees held equity in the firm.
By the time of the sale he personally owned 12 percent.
He could have kept it all. Instead, when the deal closed, hundreds of longtime staffers got life changing payouts.
His own read on it is that the company only reached that valuation because those people stayed and worked like owners, which they were.
He stayed on as executive chairman of JLL's Americas division until he retired in 2018, at one point earning around $12 million a year, which made him the highest paid retired NFL player in America.
He's now in his eighties, worth several hundred million dollars.
A guy who made $25,000 as a rookie because he spent his twenties in the Navy instead of the NFL.
He built the thing on Tuesdays in the offseason, and then gave most of it away before he sold it.

In 1987 Nike had $600 million in revenue. Phil Knight was stuck. The company was losing ground to Reebok, burning cash, and nobody inside could agree on what to do next.
He brought in Les Brown to speak to his executive team.
Brown was found abandoned in Miami at 6 weeks old. Labeled mentally retarded at age 9. Failed fifth grade twice. Had no degree, no connections, no money.
By 1987 he was the highest-paid motivational speaker in America. Marriott paid him. McDonald's paid him. General Electric paid him. Fortune 500 companies flew him in because one session with Les Brown changed how their people think.
Nike's revenue crossed $1 billion two years later.
Brown built all of it on one thing he learned by losing everything.
He made a promise to his adopted mother to buy her a house. Worked years to get the down payment. Found a home on the water in Miami. Signed without a title search.
A registered letter arrived weeks later. A $12,000 lien against the property. The previous owner's debt. 30 days to pay or lose the house.
He lost the house. Lost 23 pounds in the process. Packed his mother back into the old neighborhood while the same neighbors who watched them leave watched them return.
He stood in the driveway unloading furniture with his head down crying.
His mother said hold your head up. You have nothing to be ashamed of.
For weeks he couldn't move. Couldn't think. Couldn't plan.
He said the mind works like a gas pump. You cannot start pumping until the previous bill clears. Anger doesn't clear. Humiliation doesn't clear. They sit on the lever and nothing moves.
He told the story of a man everyone in Columbus called Chicken Man.
Woke up at 3am to a house on fire. Got out the window. Heard his wife and children screaming. Ran back. The flames were too hot. He could not get in.
The screaming stopped.
His brother-in-law arrived and started hitting him. Calling him a coward over and over.
When people pulled him off they asked if he was all right.
Chicken Man looked at them and started making the sounds of a chicken. He never spoke again. Drove around the city for the rest of his life with a toy chicken on his car and a photo of his wife in a baby carriage.
Brown said most people walking around are carrying something exactly like that. An event from years ago still running their entire life.
80% of the people you tell your story to don't care. The other 20% are glad it happened to you and not them.
The question is never what happened. The question is what are you going to do about it.
The lecture is free on YouTube. Just over an hour.
Almost nobody has watched it as a precise diagnosis of why capable people stay exactly where they are.
PREACH!!!!!
John Salley says having a $70,000 car and a driver is a bigger flex and better use of money than owning a $300,000 Lamborghini
“When I was collecting cars, he goes, ‘You got five cars and one ass. You’re on the road 200 days a year. So you have 165 days, and then 65 days of that is snow. So you’re driving those cars, not all of them, maybe 100. They’re depreciating assets. They’re not getting better. It’s going to cost you money’”
“You know what the real floss is, not having a $300,000 car, but having a driver in a $70,000 car. That way you can be dropped off at the door, picked up when you want to. You don’t have to worry about parking. You can do more business not driving, by just sitting there”
“Think about it. It’s going to cost you $40,000 to have a driver, but it costs you $300,000 to have a Lamborghini. It’s nice, but I’ve been around billionaires that don’t drive Lamborghinis. Every billionaire I’ve been around doesn’t drive. And you can be handling business”
Facts!!!!!
Did you know 90% of communication is nonverbal? An expert found that tone of voice is 38% and body language is 55%, with words only making up 7%. Understanding this is key to emotional intelligence and truly connecting with others. #CommunicationSkills #BodyLanguage
MAGIC!!!!!! @MagicJohnson
WOW!!!!! ITS NEVER TO LATE FIR THE COMEBACK!!!!
On July 3, 1976, Tina Turner waited until Ike fell asleep in their Dallas hotel room.
Her face was swollen from another beating.
In her pocket, she carried thirty-six cents and a Mobil gas card.
That was all.
Tina slipped from the Statler Hilton and ran into the night.
She had no car waiting.
No friend nearby.
No carefully prepared escape plan.
She crossed Interstate 30 on foot, weaving through traffic and narrowly avoiding a truck.
On the other side stood a Ramada Inn.
The manager recognized her despite her injuries. He gave her a room, placed security outside the door, and allowed her to hide while her body began to recover.
For the first time in years, she was safe.
Three weeks later, Tina filed for divorce.
After sixteen years of marriage, she asked for almost nothing.
No house.
No money.
No royalties.
She wanted only one thing.
Her name.
“Tina Turner.”
Ike had created that name as part of the act he controlled. Tina reclaimed it as the foundation of the life she intended to build.
She walked away carrying debt, tax problems, and an uncertain future.
The music industry considered her finished.
She was approaching forty, had little control over her earlier recordings, and was trying to begin again in a business obsessed with youth.
Tina refused to disappear.
She practiced Nichiren Buddhism and chanted daily for strength.
She accepted almost any work offered: television appearances, hotel lounges, county fairs, and small corporate events.
The stages were far removed from the arenas she had once filled.
Still, she performed as though every audience mattered.
Piece by piece, she rebuilt herself.
Then came 1984.
At forty-four, Tina released Private Dancer.
The album became a global success.
“What’s Love Got to Do with It” reached number one.
Grammy Awards followed.
So did major tours, films, and the recognition she had earned on her own terms.
The woman dismissed as a has-been became the Queen of Rock and Roll.
Her second career lasted for decades.
She sold millions of records and filled stadiums around the world.
She also found a gentler love with Erwin Bach, whom she met in 1986.
Years later, when Tina suffered kidney failure, Erwin donated one of his kidneys to save her life.
Tina died peacefully in Switzerland in 2023 at eighty-three, with Erwin beside her.
Her legacy is larger than music.
It is the story of a woman who escaped with almost nothing and discovered that almost nothing could still be enough.
Thirty-six cents.
A gas card.
A name.
And the courage to cross the road.
Tina Turner proved that starting over is not reserved for the young.
Sometimes a life begins again the moment you finally run toward yourself.

A reporter recently asked Jay Leno whether he had considered getting a girlfriend.
His wife, Mavis, has advanced dementia.
Jay looked genuinely confused.
“I already have one,” he replied. “I’m married.”
He later explained that people make vows when they marry, yet somehow seem surprised when someone actually keeps them.
Jay and Mavis Leno have been married since 1980. They met four years earlier at a Los Angeles comedy club, where he was performing and she was in the audience.
Jay became one of America’s most recognizable entertainers, hosting The Tonight Show for decades and building a famous collection of automobiles.
Mavis chose another kind of public life.
From 1997 to 2019, she chaired the Feminist Majority Foundation’s campaign against gender apartheid in Afghanistan. Long before most Americans understood what Taliban rule meant for women, Mavis was speaking publicly about girls banned from school, women barred from work, and entire lives erased from society.
She traveled, lobbied government officials, and spent years demanding that the world pay attention.
Today, an award for global women’s rights carries her name.
Then, slowly, the woman who had fought so fiercely for women the world ignored began losing pieces of her own memory.
In 2024, Jay sought legal conservatorship over her estate because her condition had progressed to the point where she could no longer manage important decisions herself.
The hardest part, he said, was not paperwork or public attention.
It was the mornings.
For nearly three years, Mavis would sometimes wake believing she had just learned that her mother had died.
Not remembering the loss as something from long ago.
Experiencing it as new.
She would cry.
Jay would sit beside her, comfort her, and help her through the grief.
Then the next morning, it might happen again.
Today, his life looks quieter than people might expect.
He still performs and spends time with his cars, but he rarely stays away overnight. He returns home, cooks dinner, and watches television with Mavis.
They enjoy animal documentaries and travel videos, visiting distant places through the screen when real travel has become difficult.
Sometimes she cannot walk through the house alone.
Jay lifts her into his arms.
As he carries her, he sways gently as though they are dancing.
He calls it “Jay and Mavis at the prom.”
She laughs.
She still recognizes him.
She smiles when he enters the room.
She tells him she loves him.
And when she sees something unfair on television, she still reacts with the same anger that once fueled decades of activism.
That part of her remains.
People often approach Jay and tell him how sorry they are.
He does not fully understand the sympathy.
Mavis is not in physical pain, he explains. She becomes confused, and sometimes frightened, and he is there when that happens.
He does not describe it as a burden.
He describes it as being needed.
The woman who spent years insisting that society must not abandon vulnerable women now needs someone beside her each evening.
The man she married is still there.
Not because the situation is easy.
Not because he expected this version of their future.
But because a promise made decades ago still means what it meant then.
For better or worse.
In sickness and in health.
Jay Leno does not consider his devotion extraordinary.
To him, it is simply marriage.

Star actor Anthony Mackie has soared to the highest levels in Hollywood but one thing he doesn’t play about is raising his boys to be young men. He shares with @Realrclark25 @FredTaylorMade @OfficialCrowder how he keeps them humble, he brings them up with respect and responsibility but strays from society’s trend of what they are trying to make young men think and feel.
