[1] As of October 1 2026, Nigeria’s six geo-political zones will become official and constitutional organs of government. This means that there will be four tiers of administration in Nigeria - Federal, Zonal, State and Local governments

[2] Nigeria will have six geo-political zones, with each being made up of seven states. Our constitution will prohibit the creation of any more states after these 42

[3] As part of this restructure, we will abolish the federal allocation regime and replace it with resource control under which states will remain the federating units. Revenue distribution will be as follows - States: 50%; Federation account: 20%; Geo-political zones: 15%; National trust fund: 15%. We shall gradually migrate towards this to achieve our targeted goal by 2040

[4] Geopolitical zones will be responsible for maintaining regional police forces to augment the activities of the Nigerian Police Force

[5] Each geopolitical zone will be constitutionally obliged to generate, distribute and transmit electricity within its domain

[6] Every year, the chairman of the geopolitical zone will rotate among the six governors within it. A chief executive will be appointed to manage what will be a civil service structure

This NYSC reform looks like what an elderly person would do: someone who wants the best for the upcoming generation but had their own NYSC experience ages ago or none at all.

The only reason NYSC has maintained consistency is because the army has been handling it. Hand it over to civilians and watch them bastardise the whole system. In camp, you will end up paying for everything.

In the current NYSC, civilians in charge of food only provide appropriate meals when the army head is coming for inspection. We have seen the level of unprofessionalism from civilians and non-teaching staff in universities, so you can hope, but it will likely be the same rubbish.

NYSC SAED for people teaching STEM was just a money-making scheme to enrol participants. Yeah, you can learn and it’s good, but there should also be room for fun. The parade created competition to win and helped water down the stress and poor camp conditions.

The rip-off at camp markets, where things are sold three times higher, is another issue.

Overall, it would have been best for it to remain three weeks, with all focus on the one-year service after. Graduates should be placed in suitable entry-level roles that could lead to jobs at the end of the year, while the government subsidises the salary with the allowance.

Everything about this reform gives me the same vibe as when they changed the anthem. Turning the camp into a six-week bootcamp seems too stretched.

I know I have said it a lot of times but it’s so sad We might never see Vini fully get the recognition of being the best player in the world, I mean he might never win Ballon d’or because of that Mbappé move. It affects both of them, but I think it affects Vini more.

Look at them now with their national teams. Both are clearly the main men, the faces of their countries, the players everything revolves around. That’s how it’s meant to be at club level too separately. Two kings ruling different kingdoms, not sharing the same throne.

When you’re on the same team, every goal, every assist, every big performance gets compared directly. If Vini scores, people ask what Mbappe did. If Mbappe scores, people ask if he’s now the better player. Instead of building their own legacies, they’re constantly taking attention away from each other.

The irony is that both are good enough to lead a team to the biggest trophies on their own. Vini as the face of one superclub and Mbappe as the face of another would have created a rivalry at least. Because if there’s one player that can rival each other, it’s them. But now, we will never get that unless one of them leave early now. Because surely one of them is almost always going to sacrifice recognition for the other and we both know who.

For me, football is more fun when the two best players in the world are chasing each other from different sides, not competing for headlines in the same dressing room.
