@amnesty @AmnestyUSA just released a "report" on ICE, and it isn't research. It's an abolition campaign with footnotes.

I know the difference between an investigation and a verdict looking for evidence. This is the second kind. The conclusion is in the title itself: "The Case to Abolish ICE." When your findings are decided before your research starts, they aren't findings. They're marketing.

Then look at the language. "Extrajudicial executions." "Enforced disappearances." "Torture." These are some of the most serious terms in international law, and every one comes with a hedge like "may amount to" or "should be investigated as." That lets Amnesty have the headline without the burden of proving it.

The evidence doesn't get better from there. Amnesty credits the same rapid-response networks organizing against these operations as central to its documentation, so you're hearing one side of every encounter. One of its marquee accounts is a state legislator retelling what allegedly happened to her cousin. That's secondhand, with no corroboration offered. When agents arrest people for impeding operations, Amnesty treats the obstruction as a mere allegation. Blocking federal vehicles and swarming officers during a lawful arrest is not peaceful protest, and the officers who have been assaulted, rammed, doxxed, and threatened barely exist in Amnesty's telling. Neither do the criminal records and final removal orders of the people being arrested.

It finishes by reading minds, declaring the whole system "fueled by racist" narratives. That's an accusation of motive, and they never prove it.

If there's misconduct, investigate it case by case, with evidence, the way every law enforcement agency is held accountable. That's not what this is. It's a political document dressed up as human rights work, and it paints a target on the men and women doing a lawful, dangerous job.

If Pakistani students can transition directly to med school, become doctors, successfully complete the USMLE and be admitted into US residency programs, why are we forcing American students to go to undergrad first?

The US is continually making it harder for our own than we do for foreign workers.

The American foundation rejects that entirely. Our rights are "granted by our Creator" and our Government's principle duty is to protect those rights.

September 29, 1789. On the final day of its very first session, Congress formally established the United States Army, giving the young nation a permanent, standing military force.

The country had won its independence with the Continental Army, but that force had largely been disbanded after the Revolution. Many Americans were deeply suspicious of standing armies, associating them with the tyranny they had just fought to escape. A permanent professional army felt, to some, like a threat to liberty itself.

But the reality of governing a new nation, with frontiers to defend and threats to manage, made clear that some regular military force was necessary. So on this day, as its first session came to a close, Congress passed the act that established the regular United States Army under the new Constitution.

It was a modest beginning, a small force compared to the great armies of Europe. But it was the foundation of what would grow, over the centuries, into one of the most powerful militaries in the history of the world. The United States Army as a permanent institution traces its establishment to this day.
