15 August marks the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan and the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in the country's history. On the first day of the 15 August Campaign, @ShahllaArifi , a member of the leadership of the Women's Justice Movement, called on the people of Afghanistan, women, and protesters to unite in the fight to end gender apartheid and Taliban crimes. She stressed that unity and solidarity are essential to continuing the struggle for freedom, justice, and women's rights in Afghanistan.

Report | August 15, 2026 – Pakistan
On the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan, a joint protest event was held in Pakistan with the participation of protest movements, civil society activists, human rights defenders, members of the LGBTQ+ community, former military personnel, media representatives, and freedom advocates. The event was initiated and supported by the Women's Justice Movement.
The program opened with Zahra Mousavi as the moderator. Representatives of protest movements and former military personnel, including Shahla Arefi, Ada Barez, Samima Amiri, Noor Marjan, Fatima Bakhtiari, Darya Neshat, Munir Ahmad Sadiqyar, Latifa Shujai, Somaya Amani, and Sahar Nikzad, spoke about the situation of women, the repression of the people, and the consequences of five years of Taliban rule.
The artistic program featured a theater performance on the occupation of Afghanistan and the resistance of women, a reading of School Letter by Batool Hashemi, a live music performance by Shafiqa Honardoost of the Window of Hope Women's Movement, and a recitation of the poem Homeland by Mobaraka Mohandes of the Roshnai-e Omid Social Organization.
A protest exhibition organized by the Women's Justice Movement displayed symbolic items representing forced displacement, the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan, and the repression of women. The exhibition also honored Morteza Karimi, who was killed by the Taliban during the Herat protests. Participants wrote messages of solidarity on a board titled "For Afghanistan."
The event concluded with an Open Microphone session under the theme "We Will Not Forget…", allowing participants to share their messages and experiences. Protesters also chanted slogans in support of freedom, justice, women's rights, and an end to gender apartheid. During the event, the "Help the Women of Afghanistan" campaign was launched to strengthen international solidarity with the women of Afghanistan.
The event was supported by the Women's Justice Movement and organized by the Women's Justice Movement, Women's Movement Network, Lantern of Freedom Movement of Afghanistan Women, Window of Hope Women's Movement, Women's Freedom Path Movement of Afghanistan, Roshnai-e Omid Social Organization, @FreedomHubAfg , and the Afghanistan Women's Movement for Equality.

15 August marks the day when millions of women and girls in Afghanistan were deprived of their most fundamental human rights, including the rights to education, work, freedom, and full participation in society. Five years have passed since 15 August 2021 five years of exclusion, repression and systematic restrictions against Afghanistan women and #girls.
But not five years of silence.
At the protest dialogue, “Five Years of Taliban Rule: From Exclusion to Resistance and the Demand for #Justice for Afghan Women,” Afghanistan women reaffirmed a clear message:
Women’s rights are not negotiable. The exclusion of half of society cannot be the future of #Afghanistan.
We demand an end to systematic discrimination, the restoration of women’s rights to education and work, meaningful political and social participation, protection for women protesters and human rights #defenders, systematic documentation of violations, accountability, and international recognition of #genderapartheid in Afghanistan.
The international community must not normalize the systematic exclusion of Afghanistan women.
Exclusion is not the end. Resistance continues.
Justice is the demand of Afghanistan women.
