Anyone know what's happening on Abbey Lane? Heard rumours last year about a crossing point being introduced near the discovery centre, but can't find any specifics.
Messaging and communication is vital for road safety & encouraging active travel.
Junctions in Sheffield are still very dangerous for pedestrians because many drivers are unaware of their responsibility. Badly worded messages like this from an official body don't help.
Good morning South Yorkshire. How are you? It's around this time of year we see an increase in powered-two wheeler riders on the roads. Please take extra time to look out for motorcyclists, especially around junctions: https://t.co/luvou6NfR1 @MCNnews@IAMRoadSmart#thinkbike
@FingerBoardLies "commercial sensitivity" was the reason the council gave to a FOI request to not provide numbers on how much they receive for hosting Tramlines.
Would be interesting to see a @sheffieldtrib look into how often that excuse is used to avoid public scrutiny.
@PPushbike @SpiderTraitor Sorry to miss the replies to this, but @PPushbike has summed up the intent of the original post perfectly ๐ we're happy to see enforcement of existing laws as part of any safer walking strategy, but this feels like too little is being done too slowly.
Very frustrating to see Sheffield council's softly softly approach to road safety here. Great new example of how they're afraid to enforce anything to do with bad and dangerous driving:
Congestion costs the UK ยฃ20+ billion yearly. In Sheffield, it means being late for work, missing appointments, and losing time with loved ones. @SheffCouncil is taking on new enforcement powers to speed up travel, reduce delays, and improve air quality https://t.co/YAoBIIp9Va
@RuthMilsom @SheffieldSW_LS Hi Ruth! The thread from @issyhowie has already been posted, which has some great examples of junction narrowing.
Looks trickier as it's a sharper junction - a similar layout is Newbould Ln/Clarkehouse Rd - that has a similar angle, a narrower spread but also no turns one way.
Brilliant article about the problems with Sheffield's PSPO proposal. Seems designed to turn our public spaces into areas only accessible by those able to spend money in them.
Just filled this out - another Have Your Say questionnaire from @SheffCouncil with poorly designed questions that I suspect will lead to bad data/feedback.
.@SheffCouncil is seeking views on proposals to implement a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for the city centre. The consultation closes on Monday 25 March 2024 https://t.co/vJBXAuezroโฆโฆ #Sheffield#sheffieldcitycentre
@MarsFlyerPaul @CitizenUddin Yeah, never the most beautiful section of pavement (thanks to the parking) but somehow they've managed to make it look worse?
