“Permitting rights on red increases pedestrian crashes by 60 percent and bike crashes by 100 percent, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found in the 1980s.”https://t.co/kwWHEYuhP1
Someone at @BostonSchools should remind their bus drivers that school buses aren’t exempt from the rules of the road. Especially considering they carry students and drive in areas where there are a lot of kids crossing the streets. This bus ran a red light well after it changed.
@the_transit_guy How could I have forgotten the Bow rest areas in New Hampshire? They’re like New Hampshire themed amusement parks. I call them NewHampahireLand.
@the_transit_guy I remember really great ones in Maryland. Massachusetts really needs to up its service plaza game. Even the ones on the Pike leave a lot to be desired
Judging from how full this bus from Springfield Union Station to the Big E (@TheBigEFair) already is, it should probably run much more frequently than every few hours. (Tip: park at Union Station to avoid Big E traffic)
@MikeConnollyMA@MassStatePolice It’s time to relieve @MassDCR of its roadways. They are supposed to be a parks agency, not a highway department and it’s long been clear that they are incapable of or uninterested in managing them effectively. Close some and turn the rest over to @MassDOT and the municipalities.
Today, I reached out to @MassStatePolice to ask why there’s been no arrest or if there’s a citation for the driver of a Mercedes SUV, who according to reports, lost control of his vehicle and struck and killed Newton cyclist John Corcoran on the sidewalk by the DeWolfe Boathouse.
@TheDoktor16@BostonBTD@jfh@MayorWu@universalhub@WalkMass You’re mostly right, but delivery vehicles are allowed between 6pm and 11 AM, taxis are allowed between 6pm and 2am, but no one except emergency and other authorized vehicles (public works, DTX BID, etc.) are allowed 11am and 6pm.
Keep the 311 reports coming. Even if there is apparently little to no enforcement (people continue to illegally park in the pedestrian zone with impunity, in a no stopping zone no less), the number of reports will be on record. @BostonBTD@jfh@MayorWu@universalhub@WalkMass
Fort Point remains on track to lose both @MBTA #11 bus stops on A Street, despite the fact that the stops are widely used.
We received little support to keep them.
Loss of bus service will leave our elderly and disabled nearly a half-mile walk to the closest stop or station.
95% of crashes are caused by drivers, which is why 95% of traffic safety PSAs should be targeted at drivers.
Use @NHTSAgov data before wasting your time on marketing campaigns about how to walk in public.
