@GuntherEagleman Once Florida passes this, similar legislation will sweep Republican States. It will be hard to defend not passing this to a constituency
@hbulwark1 James Otis Jr., 1764: “There are, thank God, natural, inherent and inseparable rights as men, and as citizens… which, whatever became of charters, can never be abolished.”
The First Telegraph Stock-Market Hack: In 1830s France, brothers François and Joseph Blanc bribed operators on the government’s Chappe semaphore telegraph network to secretly transmit stock-market information from Paris to Bordeaux. Their accomplice in Paris watched the price of the French 3% government bond; coded signals told a corrupt operator in Tours whether the price had risen or fallen. The operator then inserted a seemingly accidental “error” signal into a legitimate government message traveling toward Bordeaux. An accomplice at the Bordeaux station recognized the error as a secret market signal and immediately relayed the information to the Blancs, allowing them to trade before the news arrived by ordinary mail. With mail taking roughly five days between Paris and Bordeaux while the semaphore system could transmit information in hours, the Blancs had a valuable information advantage—and reportedly exploited it for about two years before the scheme was exposed in 1836.
Time is a valuable commodity.

The Celtic Afterlife Loan: Ancient Roman writer Valerius Maximus reported that Gauls would lend money to one another with repayment expected in the next world, because they believed the soul was immortal. Caesar likewise reported that Druids taught that souls survived death and passed into another body. In effect, the belief in an afterlife was so strong that financial obligations could be imagined as surviving the borrower’s death—an extraordinary example of how religious beliefs could shape economic behavior.
